Weekly Highlights
Congratulations to Father Schumaker!  He is celebrating the second anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood!

The 6th grade Girl Scouts did an amazing job on the Around the World Mother/Daughter Dance on Saturday.  Everyone had a great time doing crafts from different countries, sampling food and dancing.  In addition to all the fun, they collected over 100 pairs of shoes to be donated to Soles for Jesus. Thanks to all who came and donated to this great charity!

Fifth graders enjoyed a picnic lunch in the sun and a viewing of the musical, The Music Man.
Students of all ages had fun reading bedtime stories.  They brought stuffed animals, blankets and flashlights to use while reading for Peru.  For extra fun, they read while having cookies and milk.

8th grade and 3rd grade buddies shared "bubble gum reading time". Both classes brought favorite stories to share.

The band students had a superior finish at the recent contest held in Illinois.
Something fishy was going on in middle schools science class!  Students worked on dissecting fish.

3rd-5th grade Art Club wrapped up last week. The students had a great time weaving t-shirt rugs on hula hoops.

SJV 6th grade students visited St. Francis Seminary.  Father Philip Schumaker celebrated Mass with the children. After liturgy they all took the challenge to climb to the top of the dome, played in the gym, and enjoyed some old-fashioned bowling.

Fourth grade students attended the ordination of Fr. Mauricio Fernandez.  He had visited the SJV fourth graders as part of our Seminarian Connection.
May 19, 2015

Last Wednesday the Home and School Committee hosted a principal's coffee so family and friends of St. John Vianney School could ask questions, review data, examine evidence and discuss growth indicators to better understand our school as a vital and evolving learning community. Artifacts from our recent re-accreditation self-study, curriculum documents, instructional materials currently under review and more were available so that SJV school parents and interested others could view first-hand evidence of school success.

Our self-study and program growth continues. Yesterday, after dismissal, the primary, intermediate, and middle school instructional teams met to review the most current student data for the purpose of examining trends and targeting grade specific performance information. Today, members of the Learning Support leadership team will gather with administrators and teachers throughout the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to review our school performance data within the context of the broader archdiocesan community. Why are these efforts so important? Because ultimately, the motivation behind every activity and every discussion is our commitment to provide the highest level of service to each individual student. That service is founded on low student-teacher ratios so that your child gets personalized attention from skilled and compassionate teachers. That service is evidenced in differentiated lessons that provide the appropriate level of challenge for students at grade level, those who struggle, and those who perform at the highest academic levels.

If you were not able to join last Wednesday, please know that we extend an open invitation for you to come in to meet with us to ask questions and discuss growth indicators. We are happy to talk with you about programs, but even more importantly, we are ready to talk with you about your individual child.

Peace,

Hot Lunch Balances

Just a reminder to all SJV families- the balance in your child's hot lunch account will carry over to next year. For the 8th graders, the balance will go to their next sibling, or will be refunded, if over $5, if there are no sibling accounts. For account balances of graduates with no younger siblings and non-returning students that are less than $5, reimbursement is made only if requested in writing. We would appreciate any negative balances zeroed out by the last day of school. Happy Summer from the cafeteria staff - Claudia Towne, Judi Sottile, Jane Suro, Sue Stepp, Kelly Feng and Mary Claire Barker.

Only Two SCRIP Sales Remain

School is winding down for another year and so is your opportunity to purchase SCRIP!  Just two sale dates are left.  We will order on Tuesday, May 26, the day after Memorial Day and Monday, June 1st.  It is the season for graduations, end of the year gifts, vacations and summer plans so keep SCRIP in mind when making those kind of purchases.  Of course SCRIP is great to use all year round for gas, groceries, and restaurants.  We would like to encourage you to plan ahead for the month of June and make those SCRIP purchases in the next two weeks.   We will be announcing our July and August order dates soon.  If you have any questions, please contact Martha Connelly, Amy Lodes or Janet Fisher

Hip Hip Hooray, It's Independence Day!

We are excited to announce SJV is participating in Brookfield's July 4th Parade! I have volunteered to help organize this event for the school, but as Uncle Sam would say, "We Want You" to help make it happen!

Does your child participate in a school sport or club that would be interested in walking together in the parade? Or would your family like to pass out candy to spectators as you show your school spirit? Have your kids always wanted to be in a parade instead of watching one? This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our great nation's independence with fellow classmates and school families.

Please contact  Ann Marie Hess if your group or family is interested in celebrating July 4th "SJV style". Let Freedom Ring!
