Weekly Highlights
The 8th graders are ready to play in the Padre Serra Tournament.  We wish them good luck!

To culminate their studies of the Revolutionary War, fifth graders created their own versions of the Declaration of Independence. They wrote from the Patriot point of view and included reasons for desiring independence as well as their complaints to the king regarding taxation without representation. Using feathers and ink, each student signed his/her own "John Hancock" on the bottom of the document.

Dr. Schmidt D.D.S. talked to both third grade classes about dental health. Besides vocabulary about teeth, there were demonstrations about brushing, flossing and sugar in foods. This was a good conclusion to Dental Health Month.

The 7th grade girls took first place and the 7th grade boys took second place in the SJV Basketball Tournament.  Congratulations!

February 24, 2015
Greetings!

Generally, much of the instruction the students receive throughout the course of the academic day is organized for large groups. Often, as the students can tell you, instruction is delivered in small groups. Sometimes the students are grouped by strengths; sometimes by skill. At other times students might be grouped by interest or they may choose their own group. Why this flexibility? In order to best meet the needs of each student. Flexible grouping is an important component of our differentiated instruction. Decisions made in establishing groups are made purposefully in order to match students with instruction that is most appropriate to their needs. Classroom performance, data from multiple assessments, and teacher observation are considered in establishing student groups. One of the most important hallmarks of flexible grouping is that it is not static. Groups change routinely based on the needs, interests and goals of each student.

The integration of best practices in curriculum and instruction has earned our school recognition as a truly innovative Catholic school with a strong commitment to faith, excellence, and community.

Peace,
