Weekly Highlights

Cinderella stopped by the first grade classrooms to read her own story, Cinderella. The students asked her all about her life as a princess and what it was like to live in a castle. The Spotlight Youth Theater reminded us that some of our very own SJV students will be preforming in the musical, Cinderella, next weekend!

Classroom buddies got together to make valentines.
Sixth grade students made valentines for the residents at Franciscan Woods.

The fourth and fifth graders recently completed an economic unit that encompasses important elements of community and economy, work readiness, financial literacy and business management.  As a culmination of this unit, they spent the day at the Junior Achievement Biz Town site.  This field trip provided students with an opportunity to apply what they learned in a realistic setting.  Each student assumed a job, produced and/or sold products, received a paycheck, worked on a business team, repaid business loans, shopped and managed a personal bank account.

The 8th graders attended the Junior Achievement Financial Park. The students were given a job, income, and family and had to plan a balanced budget using real-life scenarios and costs. They learned valuable lessons about financial responsibilities and saving for the future.

The Girls 7th grade Basketball team won 1st place in the Saint Anthony on the Lake Tournament last week.

February 17, 2015
Greetings!
Well, you did it again! I already knew that I would be amazed. I also knew that people had invested a gazillion hours in the planning and execution of the Bids for Kids auction. Still, I was not prepared for the fun, excitement, drama and incredibly generous response by all who participated in last Saturday's epic event, Under the Moroccan Moon. There isn't a THANK YOU that could be big enough, loud enough, or repeated enough to reflect my gratitude for all that was accomplished for the benefit of the students of St. John Vianney School. The generosity shared by the St. John Vianney community is even more special, because all of the gifts were shared with love. We have been blessed.
Peace,

SJV Earns a National Award!

In the March issue of Today's Catholic Teacher, it was announced that St. John Vianney School is a recipient of the 2015 Innovations in Catholic Education Award in the category of Curriculum and Instruction. The Innovations in Catholic Education Award honors Catholic elementary and high schools that have implemented exemplary programs to improve teaching and learning. St. John Vianney School will receive its award at a special celebration reception at the National Catholic Educational Association convention and expo in Orlando, Florida in April.

Our award winning literacy program at SJV is based on integrated best practice and excellent teachers. Continuous monitoring of student learning informs responsive instruction aligned with Archdiocese of Milwaukee exit expectations. The focused professional development, educational technology, quality instructional materials, and highly engaged students and parents are also essential program elements.

Congratulations to all SJV students, parents, faculty, administration, and pastoral leadership on this accomplishment which exemplifies our shared commitment to faith, excellence, and community.

The Parish Mission as an Aid to Prepare for Lent

There is still time to participate in the Parish Mission.  All are invited to come to this evening's session, Tuesday, February 17 at 7:00pm.

Forgiving as God Forgives: Reconciliation in Relationship/How to Heal and Repair Our Relationships
Bitterness and hostility can rob us of true happiness and injure the soul. They can separate us from one another and from God. We re-examine how God forgives us, how he forgives and forgets our offenses and empowers us to do the same in our relationships. Learn the ways of peacemaking in families, friendships, and parishes. We will never have to forgive another person as much as God has forgiven us.
