Weekly Highlights

Working in groups of three, third grade students constructed a food chain from information cards. Then they developed a food web from that chain. They all started with different producers and ended up with a top level consumer.

Third graders wrapped the gifts and gift cards for their Prince of Peace adopted family. Many classrooms are doing something similar for advent.

Fifth grade classes made ornaments for the Milwaukee County Zoo's Trim a Tree project. Their tree theme was "Animals of the Ocean". A group of students went to the zoo to trim our tree with all of the wonderful ocean animal ornaments. Find the tree on display at the US Bank Gathering Center in the "Fantastic Forest" through January 1, 2015.

Congratulations to the SJV 8th grade girls basketball team for taking first place in the SJV Basketball Tournament last weekend! The team players are Hannah P., Lizzie F., Alexandra A., Savannah P., Grace R., Emma H., Ellie B., Caroline D., and Meg. W. The team is coached by Paul S., Jeff J., and Tom R., as well as student coaches Jen & Amanda. Great job, team!
December 16, 2014
Greetings!

On Sunday we entered the third week of Advent. Gaudete Sunday is marked by the color rose to encourage us in our continuing spiritual preparation for Christmas. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us,

524 "When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Savior's first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming.200 By celebrating the precursor's birth and martyrdom, the Church unites herself to his desire: "He must increase, but I must decrease."201

This important message is conveyed simply and sweetly in a prayer written by one of our fourth grade students, Noelle Pfankuch. In reading her beautiful prayer we may recall the line from Isaiah, "and a child shall lead them."

Peace,
