The Vianney Varieties talent show was a treat for the whole school.  There were many students who performed skits, sang, danced, and played musical instruments.   Many thanks to the students and parent volunteers for making this such a fun event!
November 11, 2014
Greetings!

The safety and well-being of your children, body and soul, is our number one priority. Routine safety drills of various kinds provide confidence that we can care for the students in an emergency. We must also have confidence that we can ensure safety for the students in our daily routines.

There is increasing concern about safety in the car line and school parking lot during student drop-off and pick-up. Please join with us in our efforts to ensure the safety of all. The following routines have been established and reviewed by local law enforcement.

Preferred option: Parents use the car line for drop-off and pick-up. Children get in or out on the passenger side of the car. This is the safest procedure and should be used regularly.

Secondary option: Parents park the car east of the car line and walk their children to or from the building following the white crosswalk. This is the appropriate procedure when the student needs assistance in carrying something.

Student rules:

  • Walk.
  • Look both ways.
  • Use the crosswalk.
  • Never walk between cars.
  • Assume that drivers do not know you are there.

Driver rules:

  • Use the car line.
  • Students always have the right of way.
  • Follow the lead of the teachers monitoring traffic.
  • Be patient.

These routines have been reviewed at school. Please review them at home as well. Let's all work together to keep the children safe.

Peace,

Adoration Day Reflection
by Fr. Schumaker

"When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, "So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?" Matthew 26:40

This is the question Jesus asks his disciples right before he is put on trial and subsequently crucified. Christ himself asks us to remain and pray with Him, and how many times in our lives have we, like the disciples, fallen asleep in our faith and forgotten who has asked us to be with Him and to pray. A day of adoration reminds us of what our Lord and God has asked of us. That is why we have decided to have a day of adoration specifically for all of the children in the school. Each class, starting with third grade, will spend about 20 minutes of adoration on Tuesday, November 11th. I will meet with each class prior to their adoration time to share a reflection on what adoration is and to teach each class a different type of prayer.

One of the greatest gifts we have been given in our faith is the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist: body, blood, soul, and divinity. It is easy to take this for granted, especially as attending Mass can get routine. One of the great advantages of Eucharistic adoration is that it gives us specific time to pray to the Lord and remind ourselves of the importance of prayer, and of the real presence of Christ in the host. In the midst of the chaos of life, it is very easy to forget what is most important in life: our relationship with God. Sitting in silence and adoring our God gives us a moment to quiet our busy lives and reflect on what God wants of us. It is easy also for us to come to God and ask for many things, but rarely do we sit and listen to Him. Adoration gives us a chance to sit and listen while trying to refocus our lives and our schedules on the one who created and loves us beyond life itself. The least we can do is sit with him for a period of time and gaze upon the face of our Lord and Savior. Adoration gives us a moment, an intentional moment, which we may set aside and decide to adore our Lord; this is one of the greatest ways to praise God, and is His one simple request: "Could you not keep watch with me for one hour?" (Matthew 26:40)

Pack the Pantry

From today until Friday morning, November 21st, we will be collecting non-perishable food items, tissues, coffee, detergent, dish soap, etc. to pack the SJV, and St Josaphat pantry in time for Thanksgiving. These pantries feed local families that have no food and are struggling to survive.  Our school goal is 200 items per classroom. If we reach that goal we can celebrate with a non-uniform day. Please help us PACK THE PANTRIES and feed the hungry.

School Conferences
School conferences will be held for K4 students on Monday, November 24 and Tuesday, November 25.  Conferences for grades K5-8 will be held only on Tuesday, November 25.  Parents with students in grades K5-5 should have received an invitation to select a conference time through Sign Up Genius.  You may also follow the conference sign up link from here.  Parents with middle school students do not need an appointment time for conferences.  All middle school teachers will be in the cafeteria and will see parents on a first-come basis. This is counted as a school day so student attendance will be taken.
2015-2016 Registration
Registration papers for the next school year were mailed and need to be returned by Monday, November 17.  Thank you for returning the form and fee so we can begin the budget planning process for the next school year.

School Annual Fund

Only 27% of school families have returned their Letters of Intent.  We have a long way to go to reach our goal of 100% participation by school families, but every family counts!  The participation of school families is critical to the success of the Annual Fund because school families are the primary beneficiaries of the Annual Fund.  Even if you are unable to contribute financially this year, please commit to praying for the success of St. John Vianney School, check prayer, and return your Letter of Intent.  Click here if you need a new Letter of Intent.

Halloween Candy Collection
St. John Vianney School will again collect unwanted Halloween candy.  Collected candy will be distributed to Prince of Peace, St. Ben's Meal Program and Operation Gratitude.  Candy will be collected until November 14.

Bids for Kids Auction- Only 95 Days Away
 Saturday, February 14, 2015

Sponsorship and Item Donations

Successful auctions rely on the generosity of many individuals and businesses.  There are several levels of Sponsorship opportunities with a couple including a Masters Golf Tournament raffle ticket.  Financial contributions in any amount are greatly appreciated.  Item donations in all shapes and sizes are also needed for an effective auction.  Our committee can arrange pick-up of your donation.  Please consider a Sponsorship or Item Donation to benefit the long term success of St. John Vianney School.  This year's proceeds will be directed towards technology and school improvements.

Visit our auction website for more information and donation forms.  Contact Amy Lodes at 414-333-9963 with Sponsorship questions.

Item Donations

We are looking for individuals and businesses to donate items for our silent and live auction to be held that evening. Donors will receive recognition in the auction catalog, the school newsletter and the parish bulletin. If you would like more information you can contact Karen Parks at 262-490-4751 or karenparks221@gmail.com. You can also fill out an online donation form and drop off your item at the school or parish office.

Volunteers Needed

Several committees need additional volunteer support in many different capacities from now until the auction.  Check this committee document to see where you can lend a hand with your talents.  Some jobs can be done from home and are small child friendly, we have indicated that with an asterisk next to the dates for each committee.  Contact the chair directly if you are able to volunteer.  Not sure where your talents lie?  Contact Kim Tallmadge at 262-789-9392 and she can offer some guidance.

Bids Decorations

The Bids decoration committee needs your help!
We are looking for lanterns of all shapes and sizes to help transport our auction guests to Morocco on Saturday, February 14th.  Please email or call us if you might have some lanterns we could borrow.  We will coordinate their pick-up and return.  Thanks in advance for your help!
