The fifth graders transformed their classroom into an early European merchant market. Duct tape pens, jewelry, drawings, painted rocks, bookmarks, and many other handmade items were created by the students and then sold or traded at the merchant market. They enjoyed the simulated experience and realized that the life of a merchant takes hard work and creativity.

There will be a lot of activity for the faculty and administration of SJV while the students are away on the fall break. On Wednesday, all of us are attending Sustaining the Mission, the official program for the religious education certification of Catholic school teachers in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The curriculum is organized under six core theological areas: 1) Scripture, 2) Creedal and Doctrinal Concepts, 3) Justice and Morality, 4) Liturgy Sacraments and Prayer, 5) Church History, and 6) Formation for Mission. On Thursday, we will concentrate on our local goals for continuous school improvement in the areas of Catholic identity, differentiation, and writing. On Friday, we will attend the 2014 Catholic Educator's Convention at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee. This year's convention themes focus on literacy, student wellness, and student engagement. One piece of Friday's events is especially exciting for all of us. We will formally receive our three recognition awards for exemplary performance in Information, Technology and Media Skills, Innovative Programs - Learning Support Program, and Marketing and Recruitment.
When everyone returns next week we will resume our special intentions, prayers, and commitment to promoting a Culture of Life. During October and May, we are especially mindful to ask our Blessed Mother to pray for us, now and always. Please join your prayers with ours.
Peace,
