Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade teams worked on Catholic Identity, making their team motto, and creating their team poster.

Fr. Knippel took the Ice Bucket Challenge after being nominated by St. Anthony on the Lake.

Second graders compared leaves for science. They were using skills they practiced in reading to compare leaves. They looked for how their leaves were alike and different.

September 23, 2014

When you chose St. John Vianney School, you made a valuable choice for your child. Many of our SJV families have also chosen a Catholic high school. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that parents have the right to choose a school that corresponds to our religious convictions. (#2229)

Wisconsin tax law now allows parents to claim the subtraction for tuition paid for dependent children. Beginning in 2014, Wisconsin permits the deduction of expenses incurred by private school families. Parents are eligible for a maximum deduction of $4000 per child in grades K-8 and $10,000 per child in grades 9-12. Students transitioning from eighth to ninth grade are eligible for both deductions. Tuition expenses and certain fees incurred after January 1, 2014 are eligible for deduction.  Use this link to access Wisconsin Department of Revenue Schedule PS and the accompanying instructions

St. John Vianney School meets the definition of a private school under Wisconsin Statutes s. 118.165. Please save your tuition payment records as supporting documentation for your tax records.

Coats for Kids

The students of SJV are once again collecting gently worn winter coats for the Coats for Kids drive. The collection is taking place Monday, September 29th through Friday, October 3rd.

As you and your children assess their needs for the upcoming winter, and purchase new apparel, please keep in mind those who might not otherwise have a warm winter coat to wear. There is a child in our own local community, who would truly appreciate the coat that no longer fits your child. They will be cleaned.

Thank you for your support of this most worthwhile service project in which our students can practice the Corporal Works of Mercy in a meaningful way.

Soles for Catholic Education WalK
Calling all Middle School Students
The classroom cleaning committee is looking for volunteers who would be willing to help clean classrooms on Friday, Sept. 26th and/or Monday, Sept. 29. This would count towards your service hours! A sign up sheet will be posted by Mr. Stemper's board.

Bookmaking Help
There is a need to increase the number of reproducible leveled books available for teachers to use.  These books are used during our reading group time to offer reading material at the reading level of the group.  As a result, we would like to make many more sets of these downloaded reproducible readers.  Would you be willing to help?  You could volunteer once, weekly or monthly. It is a simple process that would involve copying the books, laminating the covers and then collating the books.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please contact Nancy Arena at nancya@stjohnv.org if you would like to help. Thank you very much!

SCRIP

It is not too early to start stashing away for..... (whisper) Christmas!  There is always so much to get for the Big Month, it becomes overwhelming to think about...mail

carrier, paper carrier, and of course our teachers, school and parish staff, co-workers and bosses or employees, babysitters, pet sitters, house sitters, dentist, lawyers, etc.- the list goes on and on

If you start now with a couple card purchases each month, there will not be that big drain in December. With gift cards, it is the easiest way to shop and you can support your favorite place of business.  Keep one or two on hand for a last minute gift. There is always a plus in being prepared and with Scrip and we can make that happen. Please consider an order next Monday, September 29.  If you have any questions, contact Martha Connelly (marthaconnelly1@gmail.com),

Amy Lodes (apottslodes@wi.rr.com ), or Janet Fisher (janfisher@wi.rr.com )
