"Libraries are our friends."
-Neil Gaiman

"Harry- I think I've just understood something! I've got to go to the library!"
And she sprinted away, up the stairs.
"What does she understand?" said Harry distractedly, still looking around, trying to tell where the voice had come from.
"Loads more than I do," said Ron, shaking his head.
"But why's she got to go to the library?"
"Because that's what Hermione does," said Ron, shrugging. "When in doubt, go to the library."
-J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

"The world is quiet here."
-Lemony Snicket

Don't you just love that new book smell? Or maybe, even better, don't you just love a book that has been read so often and by so many people that the corners of the pages are soft and curled? We are very pleased with the enthusiastic support we have from families and friends who love books wish to volunteer in our school library. Keep posted for ideas and special events focusing on our library and reading.

Little Tykes Play House
The K4 program is wondering if anyone has an "outgrown for your family" Little Tykes Play House.  The K4 students enjoy the one on their playground, but theirs is in need of an update.  Contact Mrs. Andreucci if you would like to give your play home a new home.

Home & School News

Home & School Meeting

Be the first to hear all about it!  All are invited to the first Home and School meeting of the year, Wednesday, September 10 at 9:30am in room P209.  Committees will be reporting and ideas will be flowing.  Come learn about our upcoming accreditation visit.  We will try to keep our business meeting to an hour with an "off the record" time for socializing that follows.  A full agenda is included here.  See you there!

Parent Coffee

Come make connections at the Parent Coffee on Thursday, September 25 in P209 from 7:45-9:00 am. Drop off your kids at the school entrance and start your day with a quick cup of coffee and conversation before heading off on your day.  Come meet new families, learn about our Bids for Kids Auction, SCRIP and Schwan's and other opportunities.  For more information, click here for the flyer.

Dine Out with SJV

Dine out with SJV at Buffalo Wild Wings on Bluemound Rd. on Wednesday, September 24th.  Dine-in or carry out from 3:00pm until close and they will give SJV 10% of purchases.  Earn even more for SJV by ordering BW3 Scrip cards by Monday, September 15th.  Click on the BW3 Flyer to bring along with you.

How many ways can you use SCRIP?  Almost as many ways as you can spend cash- for groceries, gasoline, restaurants, for nights out (or for the quick "I don't know what to do for dinner" nights), Wal-Mart, Target, Sam's Club runs.  Or what about that computer you are thinking about updating?  Are you needing a new snow blower?  The possibilities are endless!  All it takes is a little pre-planning to make these purchases and more with SCRIP cards.  Remember you are getting tuition credit, cash back or making a charitable donation to SJV with each purchase so it really does pay to use SCRIP.  Look for the Sunday night emails for extra rebate deals.

As always, we will process paper orders on Mondays by 8:30 am.  For an added convenience, think about shopping online and paying with PrestoPay. If you have questions, email or call Martha Connelly, Amy Lodes or Janet Fisher.

It's Trivia Time!

Come one, come all, for 10 times the fun!  It's time for SJV's annual trivia night. 10 categories, 10 questions per category, 10 people on a team

When: Saturday, October 18th in the school cafeteria

Doors will open at 6:30pm and games start at 7:00pm.

Cost is $15/person.

Click here for the registration form or contact

Heather Kormanik at [email protected] to register your team.

We are also in need of volunteers to assist at trivia night.

If you would like to help out please contact Heather Kormanik.

Schwan's Fundraising

St. John Vianney School is partnering with Schwan's to offer you high-quality frozen foods and Schwan's will give back a percentage of the sales to SJV's Home and School Association.  Through October 6th, SJV will earn 20% of all sales. If you place another Schwan's order between October 6, 2014 and August 21, 2015 Schwan's will donate 5% of the order total to SJV. Purchases of eCertificates, sold in denominations of $25, earn 40% for SJV.  During the Campaign, click here to place your order:    Delivery is right to your door and you get to pick the date and time within a 2-hour window.  You do not need to be home because they will pack your order in high quality reusable freezer bags with gel packs and you can pay by credit card when you place your order.

Stock up on easy appetizers for the Brewer and Packer games. They have a recipe tab on their website with hundreds of recipes using Schwan's products like Queso Fajita Chicken Dip and Cajun Crab Dip. Try it today! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kim Tallmadge at 262-789-9392 or [email protected]

Bids for Kids Auction

Bids for Kids Dinner and Auction

Save the date- February 14, 2015.

A magical evening featuring a silent auction, delicious appetizers, dinner, drinks, a fabulous live auction and after-party to benefit St. John Vianney Catholic School.  All are invited to attend.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the SJV school event of the year!

Invitation Co-Chair Needed

The Invitations, Stationary, and Graphics committee is in need of a co-chair to address and distribute the invitations for Bids.  This person would also be responsible for placing a few in the parish office and putting the invitation in the parish bulletin.  This work will be done in December and January.  If you are interested, please contact Toni Kroeplin at [email protected] or 262-796-8702.

The planning for our biennial auction has already begun.  One key to a successful auction is a great Acquisitions Committee.  Our current chairs, Karen Parks and Amy Lodes, are in need of committee members.  From September through December, committee members will contact past donors, businesses, and families, etc., for donations.  It will be coordinated and organized with the entire committee and Karen and Amy.

There is a planning meeting on Thursday, September 11th at 7:30 at the Lodes residence.  All are welcome to attend.  This committee is small-child friendly because a large portion of the work can be done via phone.  If you have any questions, please contact Karen at 262-649-3745 or Amy at 262-796-9963.
