holy spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts and kindle them in the fire of your love.  Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.  And you shall renew the face of the earth.

FROM OUR CHAIRMAN'S HEART

Blessings to all of you!

Many of you experienced or are at least aware of the impact the Winter Storms had on folks in our community. I've heard many stories of peril, and even great loss in that first wave. I've also heard many stories of God's people being the Christian Community in Action. From spontaneous firewood delivery to opening homes to friends or strangers in need, to personal rescues... The list goes on.

Tres Dias of North Georgia and Tres Dias of Northeast Georgia were both faced with the possibility of canceling or significantly rescheduling Weekends when the snow and ice came in again early in the week of February 9th. There are too many details to give in this short piece, but there is ample space to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the dozens of Secretariat Members, the Rectors and Team Leadership, Vendors, Church Staff, Camp Staff and Pescadores who put in many hours and showed extreme dedication to God's Kingdom Work in a period of about two and a half days to insure that our communities would have the Weekends. Then, there were several hundred Team Members and Candidates whose schedules had to change, and there were (as best we can determine) over 500 men and Women who attended the Serenades for the delayed Weekends.

I can tell you that the timing was - as you might expect, if you've been in either community for more than 3 days - GOD'S!!! All three "delayed" Weekends were saturated with the power of God, and lives were eternally changed. We worked hard, and we waded through some unsure waters, and God showed His Favor abundantly. I attended the Closings of TDNG W#130 and TDNEGA #5, and the testimonies, including some about the timing of the Weekends, had us in shouting territory.

Every Tres Dias Weekend is a powerful tool in the Hands of Almighty God! I thank all of you who allow Him to use your hands, feet, prayers and physical resources to allow our Candidates to experience "Jesus with skin on."

DeColores, And

In Christ's Lavish Love,

George

OUR FAMILY IS GROWING

Special Note about our Family Multiplying

It has been a wonderful experience for us on the Tres Dias of North Georgia Secretariat to be part of the birth of Tres Dias of North East Georgia. Many of you in our community have served and assisted in that birth, as well. Some of you have made a long term commitment to the Steering Committee/Secretariat and service on the first six sets of Weekends. Others of you have served on one or more of the five sets that are now complete and some are already on teams for the number 6 set. Now Tres Dias International has granted TDNEGA a charter as the newest community in TDI. This occurred at the TDI Secretariat meeting in Dallas, TX a couple of weeks ago.

As we have reached this milestone, it is time for some of you to give thought to where your home base will be. Let me give you an example. I have family members in Tres Dias who live in different counties than where I live. Several are TDNG Pescadores and two are Georgia Mountain Pescadores. My nephew in Mt Airy and my relatives in Tyrone and Newnan can't vote in Cobb County elections, and I can't vote in their county elections. Were all family, we can visit each other no matter where we live, but we are registered to vote in a single county (unlike people in some places I won't mention). TDNG By-Laws require much the same type of arrangement.

4.2 Members shall generally be in geographical proximity, and in the case of adjacent TRES DIAS communities, a given member shall choose a Secretariat and Chapter Community for affiliation.   Members may participate in other communities in all areas except voting and Secretariat positions, and members of other Communities may  participate in the TRES DIAS OF NORTH GEORGIA community with the exception of voting and Secretariat positions.

Since TDNEGA has received their charter, people in our TDNG database who wish to vote on or be in elected positions on the TDNEGA Secretariat, now or at some time in the future, will have to request that their "affiliation" be changed to TDNEGA. Any Pescadore may make such a request at any time to affiliate with any other Tres Dias Community, but we can only be in ONE AT A TIME. We also have perfect freedom to SERVE on Weekends where ever God, through a Rector, calls us to serve.

So, if you desire to have your affiliation changed to TDNEGA, please send that request by e-mail to dbm@tdng.org, and we will send your service record and contact information to them. Use the same method to request affiliation with any Tres Dias Community, if God leads you to a new place of service.

We're not dividing. We're multiplying!

DeColores,

George Flury

TDNG Chairman, 2012-2014

TRES DIAS INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Each year, the Tres Dias International Secretariat holds an Assembly.  At this Assembly, TD Executives and delegates from communities around the world conduct the business of Tres Dias and have training sessions on a variety of topics.  Each year, a local community hosts the Assembly.  The 2013 Assembly was hosted by Birmingham Tres Dias in Birmingham, Alabama on July, 12-14.

This year, 2014, the Assembly will be in Atlanta!!!

The Secretariat of Tres Dias of North Georgia has agreed to host the Assembly and has approved a core group to plan and organize the meeting.

This group consists of:
  • Jim (LCUR 9) and Cathy (LCUR 7) Brooks
  • Dan (TDNG 5) and Gayle (TDNG 5) Moss
  • Anson (TDNG 6)and Becki (TDNG 8) Fields

Beau (TDNG 29) Bruce is our liason with Tres Dias International.

We need your help!!!

We want this Assembly to be one of excellence.  (Work as unto the Lord).  If a lot of people all do a little, we can show southern hospitality, unity in the Spirit, and do a job that reflects positively on TDNG.

If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in helping with this meeting, email us at 2014assembly@tdng.org

More information is available at  www.tdassembly2014.org

All Pescadores are invited and encouraged to attend.  Registration forms are available on the assembly web site.

Even if you cannot attend the whole meeting, you can volunteer for just a few hours, and, just like a weekend, even if you can not be there, there are other ways of showing your support.

The ladies who are heading up our Palanca Committee would like to stuff the Attendees' bags with General Palanca Letters from our community! If you would like to participate, please email a General Palanca Letter to Trudy Munz or Cheryl Ellard (trudymunz@comcast.net or cherylellard@yahoo.com). It can be in either Microsoft Word, RTF or PDF format. Although July may seem a long way off, it is necessary for us to go ahead and collect these so they can be duplicated.

You'll be hearing more about the Assembly as the time approaches, but in the meantime, pray for us!

If you would like to serve on one of the "teams" for an hour, a day, a meal - please contact Becki Fields, Gayle Moss or Cathy Brooks, or one of the committee heads. Thank you!

LETTER FROM TIM LANGSTON

Dear Secretariat,
What an humble honor it was to be chosen to lead a group of men for a Tres Dias weekend.  It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.  It was a positive experience for me from start to finish.  Thanks to you all for prayerfully considering me to do this.  Many of you know that from the start, I didn't really want to do it, but I am glad that I followed through.  I have felt a prayer covering from the moment I told George yes.  Thank you so much for covering us (rectors) in prayer.  Thank you for your service to the Kingdom!  Many generations are affected by what you guys are doing.  My life was changed forever 15 years ago, and so were my family's lives.  My fire was rekindled to white hot on Men's 116.  Daddy has and continues to open up many doors to do Kingdom ministry, and I believe that leadership skills that I learned thru Tres Dias serves a big part in being able to do that Kingdom ministry.

Thanks again for trusting in me enough to do this task.

I love each and every one of you!!

Tim Langston
Rector #116
LETTER FROM SUSAN BROWN

An Open Letter to: George Flury, Chair,

Members of the Secretariat,                                    Pescadores of Tres Dias of North Georgia

Dear Friends,

It is with a full and grateful heart that I wish to extend my thanks to all of you for making it possible for us to overcome every obstacle to make weekend #130 happen. Without the generous outpouring of your time, your talents, and your spirit of cooperation, the weekend would have been delayed or cancelled. But God had another plan, and it was awesome to see Him put things together in a way that we could never have done in our own strength.

The scripture for the weekend, "be encouraged in heart and united in love" (Col. 2:2) truly came alive as we saw the body of Christ demonstrate encouragement and unity throughout our community. I am blessed to be a part of it, and I appreciate the enthusiasm and flexibility shown by the team. Our Spiritual Directors showed great leadership and encouraged us all along the way. And the Candidates blessed us all by giving us their openness and eagerness to celebrate God's grace.

I want to thank the community for turning out in great numbers at the Serenade, and for assisting in take-down. There are many pescadores who made personal sacrifices to make our altered schedule work. God bless each of you!

In His love,

Susan Brown, Rector

Women's Team 130

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE ON AN UPCOMING WEEKEND?

Upcoming Rectors are always looking for willing servants. Especially those who have never served or haven't served in 3 years or longer.

If you're willing to serve, a great way to get your name to an upcoming Rector is to attend Secuelas. Our upcoming Rectors who are in attendance will be introduced at our Secuelas & you will have a chance to meet them & to pass your name on to them.

Another way is to put your name & contact information on our sign up lists at the front table (where we get our name tags). These lists are given to our Secretariat Leaders who then pass them on to our upcoming Rectors.

Please note that this will not guarantee you a spot on the next team, but it will greatly increase your chance to receive a call to serve in the near future.

SPONSORSHIP (cont'd)

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SPONSOR

Following is a list of items and guidelines that sponsors should consider before entering into sponsorship:

- KNOW YOUR CANDIDATE!!  Always ensure that your candidate has a sincere desire for a closer relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

- Explain the purpose of Tres Dias to your candidate so that there are no anxieties about the weekend.  You can explain enough about the weekend to allow a prospective candidate to desire such an experience.  However, please omit mentioning Palanca, Serenades, and letters.

- Sponsors should make arrangements to meet the candidate's responsibilities with her/her family such as driving children to sports events, mowing the lawn, etc.

- Your candidate should understand that they are expected to attend the entire weekend and that if they have obligations which need to be carried out during the Weekend, that they should make arrangements ahead of time to have someone else perform those duties.  They will not be permitted to engage in work-related activity on the Weekend.

- If a couple is married, explain they both must agree to attend the weekend and the husband must attend his weekend first.

REUNION GROUPS

  reunion

We are pleased to announce that there is interest in starting three new reunion groups for women. The areas involved are East Cobb/Roswell/North Fulton, West Cobb/Paulding, and Calhoun/Dalton.

If you are interested in being in a reunion group in one of these areas, please contact postweekend@tdng.org.

CAMP OF COLORS

COC SIDE

Work continues to maintain and improve the Camp.  Some of the more significant tasks underway are:

Grading has been completed to divert water run-off away from the pavilion.  Work continues on the inside of the pavilion to address the moisture issues.

The bathroom next to the Prayer Cha Dorm is nearing completion and should be ready within the next few weeks.

Monies have been budgeted and designs are being developed to put railings on the top bunks.

The COC Board would like to ask each community to remind its members of two things: 1)Do not park or drive on the pavilion - this includes motorcycles, and 2)Do not leave foodstuffs in the storage areas unless they are in water and air tight containers.  The doors to the storage are frequently left open during weekends and we do not want to do anything to invite critters in to the area.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to investigate and prioritize the work that needs to be done. If you have any comments or suggestions concerning the Camp of Colors, contact your COC Representatives, Ray Skibba at ray.skibba@comcast.net and/or Hank Gravitt at gravitt1218@gmail.com.

The Camp of Colors exists as a place for Three Day Movements to hold weekends.  The Board is comprised of members from each community that holds weekends at the Camp as well as "at large" positions.  For information about the Board of Directors, the history of the Camp, weekend schedules, etc., visit
www.campofcolors.org

DID YOU KNOW?

question mark

The first Tres Dias weekend was held in November, 1972, in Newburgh, NY
HISTORY OF TRES DIAS
The Three Days (Tres Dias) had it's beginnings in the turmoil and destruction of civil warfare and the Second World War, which left Spain with empty churches and a sense of aimlessness and diminished dreams.  Late in the 1940's, a sense of revival was stirring within the Roman Catholic Church. Small group of of friends in various Catholic action groups began to share their faith regularly to help one another.  Pilgrimages were organized whereby men and women could rededicate their lives toward Christian ideals. Bishop Juan Hervas, who was active in action groups and renewal activities with the men on the island of Majorca, and Eduardo Bonin who was involved with re-organizing pilgrimages, met through these sharing groups.  They began to see how the church could benefit and the lives of people could be changed through studying and sharing their lives in Christ.

With a broadening vision of what these small Reunion Groups could accomplish, weekly meetings produced periodic retreats where the reality of living a Christian life was intensively taught and experienced through support of the Reunion Groups. These retreats became known as Cursillos de Christiandad, which means "short courses in Christianity." Originally, the retreats grew out of the Reunion Groups!

At first,   Cursillos were open only to men. After the tragedy of war in Spain, the church was composed of few men. Since the objective was to revitalize the church, this meant bringing men back into the activities of the church.

The Cursillo movement was confined to Spain until the late 1950's when a group of men from the Spanish Air Force who were training in Texas and in a share group, conducted the first Cursillo in the United States.  The movement began to spread across the United States among Spanish-speaking people. The first English-speaking Cursillo was not held until the early 1960's.

ESSENTIALS OF TRES DIAS
  TD Cross
The main teaching of Tres Dias is God's unqualified love for each of us through grace.  It asks each member of the Tres Dias Community to grow in their personal piety, to study God's word and other Christian writings and to express their love for Christ in Christian Apostolic Action.

These three aspects of Christian growth are stressed in the cloistered environment call, "the weekend".  An invitation is issued during the weekend for each Pescadore to join a small group of his/her own choosing for continued support, prayer, and encouragement.

In order to ensure consistency and stability within the Tres Dias movement, there must be certain essential aspects to which all the Tres Dias organizations conform.  These Essentials fall into two categories:  those which are quantitative and those which are qualitative in nature.  It is the intend of Tres Dias to use both of these categories as criteria for chartering local secretariats.

It should therefore be the policy of local secretariats to comply with these Essentials.  Policies of local secretariats which deviate from these Essentials must be reviewed on an individual basis and are subject to the approval of Tres Dias.

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS

The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.

THE TALKS OF THE THREE DAYS

Each day begins with a meditation, given by clergy, which presents the direction of the day.  All rollos for the remainder of the day pursue that direction.  The final rollo is given by a lay member who has made the message of that day a personal living testimony of living the Christian faith.  This rollista demonstrates that the message is worthy and workable.

THE TALKS OF THE THIRD DAY

Life in Grace - The last clergy rollo of the three days is Life in Grace.  It presents the key ways for a Christian to keep in touch with Christ.  In addition to the experience of the Weekend, it offers a practical program of spiritual growth.  Study of the Bible, prayer, and frequently availing oneself of Holy Communion are primary means for sustaining the life in grace.  A life in grace is maintained through finding peace, purpose and power in Christ.  The Spiritual Director's own reflections of the Weekend and his personal testimony may be given in this Rollo.

SECRETARIAT REMINDERS

reminder
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs".

We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.

-   -   -

Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God and what He has in store for them.

  -   -   -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat.  We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat.  If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly.  For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.

-   -   -

We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only.  This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.

-  -  -

Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases, it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees.

If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the Facebook page mentioned elsewhere in this  newsletter.
