New Year's Resolutions
Blessings to all of you! I pray that God is already showing you the "Many Colors" of His grace as we begin the year of 2014. We anticipate another great year for the TDNG Community, with new and experienced Secretariat members focused on keeping our community "running the race" in a way pleasing to the Lord; Rectors already following God's direction in leading or building teams or listening to His voice for themes for the eight Weekends we have scheduled; sponsoring the 35th annual TDI Assembly in July, and celebrating the chartering of the TDNEGA Community.
Many of us have probably made some New Year's Resolutions, and I'd like to briefly address that topic. I had to get out the Strong's Concordance (I'm grateful that I can still lift that thing, whew!) to find even one reference (Luke 16:4) to any form of the word "resolve", and I believe that is only in the KJV. However there are over 120 references to "Choose" or one of its forms, and choosing to do something is really to be resolved to do it. Choosing is a very important thing. We belong to God; we are His, because He CHOSE us, in Christ, before the creation of the world. (Eph. 1:4). And, God CHOSE to give us everything we need for life and godliness... (2 Pet. 1:3). One thing that makes God's choosing different from ours, in many cases, is that He always DOES what He Chooses! Sometimes we choose to do something, but we fail to carry through with the required action.
I hope you have made some Spiritual resolutions or set some Spiritual goals for this year. We are living in very dark times, and our world needs light, desperately! Resolve to be that light in your Environments. Resolve to help others shine brighter and be better Christian Leaders by offering them the experience of a Tres Dias Weekend. Choose to answer God's call to Kingdom Service, if the Holy Spirit urges you to serve on a team or serve on the Secretariat. Resolve to seek first the Kingdom of God and to trust God to lead and provide in EVERY circumstance in life. He WILL DO what He promises to do for His own.
DeColores!
In Christ's Lavish Love,
George

GROWING IN CHRIST THROUGH SERVICE
| |
In John 3:30, John the Baptist succinctly and eloquently summarized the main scriptural takeaway for me on my Tres Dias weekend-way back in 1993. "He must increase, I must decrease." What that says to me is- following Jesus is a process of growth. Our salvation is confirmed in that moment of acceptance of Christ's forgiveness, but the rest of our life should be marked by steady growth in His virtues.
I had been a Christian since 1980 and believed I was developing into a mature Christian. On that weekend, my eyes were opened to areas I needed to give to Jesus; areas where I wasn't really growing. The good news is- our life on the road to heaven could be best evaluated by answering one question: Am I Growing?
You've heard the old saying before: "I am not who I should be today, but thank God I'm not who I used to be!" That's growth! It can be largely measured by our service in His kingdom.
When we serve others, you and I are growing and we are pleasing our Lord. If you and I are not growing, we are probably out of step with the Father's will for our life. I must decrease. He (Jesus) must increase. It seems to be an imperative; we must.
So, is there an area in your life that has not changed much in the past few months or years? How about allowing Jesus to change you by serving in this community? I have found that when I serve on a Tres Dias weekend, I see real growth in my life. If you are not growing like you want to, I encourage you to do two things:
- Sponsor a Christian friend or relative for a weekend. You will be serving them (through sponsorship) & see them grow.
- Contact an upcoming Rector and get on a team yourself. You will grow.
If you haven't sponsored someone in a while, now is the time. Fees have been reduced and there is a fairly short waiting list for candidates. The Lord may be putting someone on your heart even as you read this today. Download the application from the website (tdng.org), and get the process going right now! Take that step today.

Men's Leader on TDNG Secretariat

THE WORD

"Dear firends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed."

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE ON AN UPCOMING WEEKEND?
| |
Upcoming Rectors are always looking for willing servants. Especially those who have never served or haven't served in 3 years or longer.
If you're willing to serve, a great way to get your name to an upcoming Rector is to attend Secuelas. Our upcoming Rectors who are in attendance will be introduced at our Secuelas & you will have a chance to meet them & to pass your name on to them.
Another way is to put your name & contact information on our sign up lists at the front table (where we get our name tags). These lists are given to our Secretariat Leaders who then pass them on to our upcoming Rectors.
Please note that this will not guarantee you a spot on the next team, but it will greatly increase your chance to receive a call to serve in the near future.

SPONSORSHIP (cont'd)
| |
HOW TO SPONSOR
Sponsors need to use prayer and discernment when asking God whom He chooses for them to ask as a Candidate/Pilgrim. Pray that the Candidate will be open to God's call to discipleship, rather than asking God to make him or her go on a Weekend. Sponsorship requires a commitment of time. Get to know your candidate/pilgrim. Make an appointment with the person or couple for the purpose of discussing their participation in the Weekend. (Ed. note - make sure they understand they must be present and participate in the entire Weekend). Extend an invitation. Frame it is terms of a gift to be received rather than coercing them to go. Share your faith, explain the purpose of Tres Dias and the basic elements of the weekend, and answer all questions honestly. Ask them to fill out a registration form. Encourage equal commitment from the spouse (if applicable). Help introduce your candidate into the community. Our Secuelas are open to those who have not attended a weekend for the purpose of introducing potential candidates to the community. Tres Dias recommends that when a candidate is married, the husband attends Tres Dias before the wife attends. We are committed to helping families maintain Biblical balance, and we believe that can best be achieved by having the husband attend first. Ideally, both people would attend consecutive weekends so that they can share their experience. Exceptions should be considered on a case-by-case basis by the local secretariat, taking careful consideration of the impact on the family. All candidates must be 21 years of age or older to attend a Weekend, however, a candidate that is soon to be 21 can be considered on a case-by-case basis determined by the local secretariat. Sponsors requesting an exception should present their exception request at a Secretariat meeting in person in order to answer any questions which the Secretariat may have.

REUNION GROUPS
| |
We are pleased to announce that there is interest in starting three new reunion groups for women. The areas involved are East Cobb/Roswell/North Fulton, West Cobb/Paulding, and Calhoun/Dalton. If you are interested in being in a reunion group in one of these areas, please contact postweekend@tdng.org.

CAMP OF COLORS
| |
The Camp of Colors is a special place with a special history. It was an elementary school, then a junk yard, then a place of redemption and blessing. In the 20 years since the first weekend at the Camp of Colors (NGMVN 6), upwards of 75,000 people have served on, or attended, a weekend. (If you served twice, you count as two). Sometimes you have to know where you came from in order to appreciate where you are -
Inside the Rollo Room
Outside the Rollo Room
This building was originally a place filled with the laughter and hopes of children. Then it became a place filled with junk and in disrepair. Then it was redeemed and restored, but still needs daily attention in order to realize its potential. Just like us.
The Board has approved bids for the construction of a bathroom for the Prayer Cha dorm.
The COC Board has also approved bids for grading of the back parking lot to improve drainage so that water runs away from the pavilion and to seal the pavilion. Work is underway to apply sealant to the inside walls of the storage area. The COC Board would like to ask each community to remind its members of two things: 1)Do not park or drive on the pavillion - this includes motorcycles, and 2)Do not leave foodstuffs in the storage areas unless they are in water and air tight containers. The doors to the storage are frequently left open during weekends and we do not want to do anything to invite critters in to the area.We appreciate your patience as we continue to investigate and prioritize the work that needs to be done. If you have any comments or suggestions concerning the Camp of Colors, contact your COC Representatives, Ray Skibba at ray.skibba@comcast.net and/or Hank Gravitt at gravitt1218@gmail.com.
The Camp of Colors exists as a place for Three Day Movements to hold weekends. The Board is comprised of members from each community that holds weekends at the Camp as well as "at large" positions. For information about the Board of Directors, the history of the Camp, weekend schedules, etc., visit www.campofcolors.org

TRES DIAS INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY | | Each year, the Tres Dias International Secretariat holds an Assembly. At this Assembly, TD Executives and delegates from communities around the world conduct the business of Tres Dias and have training sessions on a variety of topics. Each year, a local community hosts the Assembly. The 2013 Assembly was hosted by Birmingham Tres Dias in Birmingham, Alabama on July, 12-14.
Next year, 2014, the Assembly will be in Atlanta!!! The Secretariat of Tres Dias of North Georgia has agreed to host the Assembly and has approved a core group to plan and organize the meeting.
This group consists of:
- Jim (LCUR 9) and Cathy (LCUR 7) Brooks
- Dan (TDNG 5) and Gayle (TDNG 5) Moss
- Anson (TDNG 6)and Becki (TDNG 8) Fields
Beau (TDNG 29) Bruce is our liason with Tres Dias International. We need your help!!! We want this Assembly to be one of excellence. (Work as unto the Lord). If a lot of people all do a little, we can show southern hospitality, unity in the Spirit, and do a job that reflects positively on TDNG. If you have any questions, or would like to be involved in helping with this meeting, email us at 2014assembly@tdng.org |
DID YOU KNOW?
| |
The origin of the Cursillo weekend came from reunion groups, not the other way around. Inviting people to your reunion groups is an excellent way to get the interested and comfortable with the idea of attending a Weekend.

ESSENTIALS OF TRES DIAS | | The Tres Dias movement endeavors to bring Christians to a closer, more personal, walk with their Lord Jesus Christ and encourage them to Christian leadership and Apostolic Action in their environments.
Tres Dias is based on the principles, the method, and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Cursillo movement initially proposed by Bishop Juan Hervas, Eduardo Bonin and their fellow Christians. Each candidate goes through three phases of the Tres Dias movement: the pre-weekend, the three-day weekend, and the Fourth Day. Tres Dias is a Christian ecumenical movement.
The founders of the Cursillo movement saw a world of great need around them. They knew that the answer to the needs of the world had to be Christ and His Grace; but they saw Christians who did not live for Christ, and they saw a church that was ineffective and without life. They developed the Cursillo to meet part of this problem; to provide any part of the church which was ready to undertake the formation of Christian life with all the people it needed -- people who would have the deep dedication to Christ and to bringing all peoples to Him -- people who would undertake a regular program of formation in Christianity, and who would make their Christian life conscious and vital -- people who would understand how to be part of a unified apostolic effort. (Adapted from "Tres Dias, Notes on Method, Structure, and Dynamic" Mar. 1974)

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS
| |
The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
THE TALKS OF THE THREE DAYS
Each day begins with a meditation, given by clergy, which presents the direction of the day. All rollos for the remainder of the day pursue that direction. The final rollo is given by a lay member who has made the message of that day a personal living testimony of living the Christian faith. This rollista demonstrates that the message is worthy and workable.
THE TALKS OF THE THIRD DAY
Environments - The first Rollo of the third day concerns the several Environments of a Christian. It observed that if Christians are to be effective in bearing witness to Christ, they must understand the world in which they live. They should be a positive influence, seeking out individuals to befriend with whom they can share Christ. One way to transform our environment is through person-to-person contacts, in whatever environment we are situated. This work is done with patience, perseverance, prayer and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

SECRETARIAT REMINDERS
|
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs".
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God and what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
- - - Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases, it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees. - - -
If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the Facebook page mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter.
