TDNG SPONSORSHIP SURVEY
| |
Thank you to everyone who responded to the recent survey concerning sponsorship in the TDNG community. The results have been given to all members of the Secretariat for their review.
Tres Dias only exists to provide the "Jesus with skin on" experience for candidates...and candidates only exist because someone sponsored them.
|
SPONSORSHIP
| |
Several of the comments from the survey expressed the need to know more about what is involved in sponsorship. To address those questions, we are going to repeat the series "Sponsorship and the Responsibilities of a Sponsor". If you have any questions about Sponsorship that are not addressed in this series, feel free to contact any member of the Secretariat (listed below). What is Tres Dias?Tres Dias is a lay-led non-profit Christian ecumenical movement and seeks the participation of persons from all Christian denominations. The movement endeavors to bring Christians (sometimes we refer to them as candidates or pilgrims) to a closer, more personal walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and encourages them to Christian "Leadership". It encourages Christians to worship and serve as leaders in their home organizations. Sponsorship
Sponsoring candidates is only one of the many joys we have as members of the Tres Dias of North Georgia community. However, sponsorship brings with it several responsibilities to the candidates, the community, and ultimately, to God. It has been said that the most important part of Tres Dias is sponsorship. Responsible Sponsorship - Sponsorship is an integral part of Tres Dias; however, responsible sponsorship is often taken for granted. We assume that everyone knows the how and why of sponsorship. Sponsorship is the first act of Palanca before the weekend ever begins. A candidate's experience with his or her sponsor impacts the experience they will have of the Weekend. Please keep this in mind as you handle your sponsorship. Sponsorship is vital - Tres Dias operates on sponsorship. Personal sponsorship ensures the personal care and commitment of God to each Candidate/Pilgrm, and provides personal acts of love such as prayer and Palanca. The topic of sponsorship should be an active topic of discussion in every Reunion Group. Why sponsor - To bring spiritual revitalization to Christians who will, in turn, bring new life and vision to the work the church, home, workplace, and community. Sponsor wisely - Wise sponsorship is prayerful and purposeful. It will eventually produce a balanced, theologically-centered movement of the Holy Spirit. Tres Dias will then have its greatest impact on local churches, homes, and workplaces. Careful, discerning sponsorship will prevent Tres Dias form becoming a "religious fringe group" or Para-church organization. The harvest from Tres Dias should become a positive influence in the church or community, bringing unity into the Body of Christ. More next issue.....

MY SPONSORSHIP STORY
| |
Several Sponsorship Survey responses dealt with the issue of husbands needing to attend a weekend before the wife can. I know this is a knotty issue and not all 3-day organizations have this requirement, although one of the original purposes of the Cursillo movement was to get more men involved in the church.
In the mid-Eighties, a close friend of ours from church attended North Georgia #2. As of #2, there weren't a lot of people to choose from to form a reunion group, so she decided to "build" her own by sponsoring her friends. My wife was really excited and couldn't wait to go. There was only one problem - me.
We had several "open and honest" discussions about our attending. One day, Becki said to me "You won't even give me three days of your life so I can do something important to me?" This struck me deeply and as a husband, I knew it was a small price to pay for her being able to attend. So, I said "If I go, do you promise that you will never mention anything about Tres Dias to me again?" She promised, I went and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have been involved with Tres Dias, Vida Nueva and the Camp of Colors ever since.
So, if you encounter a couple in this situation, maybe, instead of encouraging him to attend as a benefit for himself, maybe he will attend for his wife.
Just a thought.

CAMP OF COLORS
| |

As we reported, last month, the sidewalk has been widened, drainage improved, and the "drop-offs" eliminated.
The railing approaching the pavilion is complete. This may not seem like a large item, but it addresses a safety issue in this area.
The golf cart has been replaced. As always, we would like to remind anyone using the cart to exercise caution and be safe. Improvements have been made to the general landscape and appearance of the front, and is underway outside the storeroom and side area. Nicer window covers for the Rollo room have been obtained and are being installed. Also, a new furnace for the chapel is onsite, and will be installed this week. Work continues on addressing the leak in Dorm E, and we are hopeful that it will be fixed by the next set of weekends. We are soliciting quotes and will be making decisions concerning the carpet in the Rollo room and floor covering in the storeroom in the near future. We are actively addressing the leaks and moisture problems in the storage area and will also have news on that soon. We would like to remind everyone that absolutely no food items should be stored except in airtight and critter proof containers.
We still need a contractor to address the buildout of a bathroom in the storeroom off the prayer cha dorm. If you are interested in performing this work, or know of someone, send an email to news@tdng.org.
There are always opportunities for maintenance and improvements when you are dealing with a building this old holding large crowds 35 weekends a year. We appreciate your patience as we continue to investigate and prioritize the work that needs to be done. If you have any comments or suggestions concerning the Camp of Colors, contact your COC Representatives, Ray Skibba at ray.skibba@comcast.net and/or Hank Gravitt at gravitt1218@gmail.com.
The Camp of Colors exists to be a place for Three Day Movements to hold weekends. The Board is comprised of members from each community that holds weekends at the Camp as well as "at large" positions. For information about the Board of Directors, the history of the Camp, weekend schedules, etc., visit www.campofcolors.org

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS
| |
The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
THE TALKS OF THE THREE DAYS
Each day begins with a meditation, given by clergy, which presents the direction of the day. All rollos for the remainder of the day pursue that direction. The final rollo is given by a lay member who has made the message of that day a personal living testimony of living the Christian faith. This rollista demonstrates that the message is worthy and workable.
THE TALKS OF THE SECOND DAY (Cont'd)
Reading and study, however, are only part of the answer. We also come to know God in Christ through various methods which HE has chosen and provided. In Tres Dias, we refer to them as: SACRED MOMENTS OF GRACE. These acts and/or events are known in various traditions as Sacraments, Ordinances, Covenants, Church Rites, Means of Grace, And Signs of Grace. In some traditions, they are not even named; nevertheless, most of them are practiced in the various denominations and churches. This clergy rollo presents these acts of God as visible signs of God's presence and power and as a means of grace for our journey from our birth to our physical death. A worship service including the celebration of Holy Communion is conducted during or following this rollo.
The ACTION rollo states the truth that we learn to know Christ through the loving acts of HIs people. This rollo speaks of "making a friend and bringing our friend to Christ". If those listening to this rollo remember nothing else, it is hoped that it would be that phrase. (Ed. note: you probably heard "make a friend, be a friend, bring that friend to Christ"). The Holy Spirit leads us in ways that help us bear witness to our faith. Examples are given of how the rollista has influenced others, and how the rollista has been challenged, converted and strengthened by such Christ-directed actions.

SECRETARIAT REMINDERS
|
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs".
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend may attend Tres Dias functions.
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God and what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
- - - Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases, it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees. - - -
If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the Facebook page mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter.
