O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, instructs the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FROM OUR CHAIRMAN'S HEART

Blessings, and De Colores, Everyone!
"Trust and obey"
Those words from the great old hymn are more relevant today than ever before, as long as we remember "WHOM" we trust and obey. Our human knowledge and ideas are never complete, so we must trust and obey God to accomplish the work He gives us to do.
This is an age of seemingly endless information and advice on every aspect of life from countless sources. Unfortunately, in all of that information and advice, there is very little wisdom. We need wisdom more than ever, and the apostle James tells us in chapter 1, verse 5 of his epistle that we can ask God for it and He will give it to us. James continues in chapter 3 to warn us that some may call what they offer, wisdom, but it is actually "earthly, unspiritual" and even "demonic". Then, in verse 17 he tells us "But the wisdom that comes down from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere."
As we serve in this great community I'm praying for wisdom, and I hope all of you are, as well. It may be obvious to you that those of us who represent you on the Secretariat should pray for and demonstrate wisdom; it may be less obvious how each of us in the community demonstrating wisdom can be vastly more important than just the people in the 17 positions who cast votes. We depend on the wisdom of each Pescadore in many areas, some of which are:
- Choosing to share the blessings we have received by committed sponsorship
- Deciding when an invitation to serve on a team is truly God's call tand when it is NOT.
- Understanding that serving in our local churches speaks more clearly of our mission to our pastors than all the great stories of what God does on a Tres Dias Weekend.
- Giving feedback and ideas to help improve job descriptions and ways of training new Pescadores.
I've recently read Dr. Michael Youssef's book entitled, Trust and Obey. In the book, Dr. Youssef points out the wisdom and blessings of life and ministry based on those three words, and he clearly shows what can happen when they are not. May we all have the wisdom to Trust and Obey God, the One who is all wise!
In Christ's Lavish Love,
George

TDNG PASTORAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
| |
Tres Dias of North Georgia (NGTD) is proud to announce the establishment of the Pastoral Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was unveiled at the January 2011 meeting of The Secretariat recognizing the necessity and importance for church leadership candidates to attend a NGTD weekend, and has been renewed for 2012.
Here are some of the details:
The NGTD Pastoral Scholarship fund is devoted to the enhancement of leadership in our area church leaders. It provides the necessary funds on a need basis to enable the church leader and his/her spouse full participation on a NGTD weekend as a candidate.
There would be a total of 10 pastoral scholarships given per calendar year and a limit of 6 scholarships to be given on any one weekend. Pastoral scholarships can be given to vocational full-time pastors, music and youth pastors and their spouses.
Pastoral scholarships would be given on a first come, first served basis and tracked by the Weekend Couples.
Award: The scholarship has a maximum limit of $2,500 per calendar year and given to the pastoral candidate in an amount up to a $125. The spouse of the pastoral candidate is also eligible to receive an amount up to $125. Partial scholarships (less than $125 per candidate) are also available as part of this fund.
I would be most welcome to talk to you further to answer any questions or provide additional information.

SPONSORSHIP
| | Sponsoring a family member, friend or co-worker is SUCH a blessing. You already know a peek at what God has in store for them when they attend their Tres Dias weekend! Only God knows the whole package He has to give them!!
Being a part of someone attending a Tres Dias weekend is small in comparison to what God will do on the weekend, as He uses the Rollos, the Spiritual Directors, the wonderful worship, the delicious meals (entertainment included), the serenade, the fellow Candidates and the smiles and care from all the steadfast servants' hearts. Sponsorship is the beginning of the blessing in a Candidate's experience, and there are many important elements of Sponsorship! First is praying for God to reveal who you should approach about attending a Tres Dias. Then, pray for God to give you the right time to approach your potential candiate(s). It's a good idea to have a Tres Dias application on hand too! Explain to your Candidate everything you can about why you would love to see them attend and what your weekend meant to you. Of course, you will want to omit sharing about palanca, serenade and closing. If questions arise that might reveal any of those things, be honest. For example, your potential Candidates may ask, "Do they make you speak in front of people?" The answer would be, "You are not asked to do anything you do not want to." As we all know, no one is forced to speak into the microphone; but we hope that they will, once they observe other Candidates receiving support from their table when speaking during Decuria. One important element of sponsoring someone is the weekend fee. Sponsorship does not now or has ever included the Sponsor paying for the Candidate's weekend fee. While it is a very considerate gesture, it is not part of your Sponsorship duties. Share with your potential Candidate the cost of the weekend and ask if that will be a problem for your Candidate. You will know if it is. If it is a problem, you can offer to help out by asking if they could pay half or part of the fee. If your Candidates are a married couple, you could offer to pay the husband's weekend fee and ask if they could pay for the wife's weekend fee. There are those Sponsors who feel it is such a blessing to pay their Candidates' weekend fees, that they do not discuss this element with their Candidate. The Candidate then has the mistaken understanding that in order to sponsor someone, they too, must pay their Candidate's weekend fee. If any Sponsor feels paying for their Candidate's fee is the way it must be, then their potential Candidates do not get to attend Tres Dias if that Sponsor does not have the personal funds to pay their Candidate's fee! Please do NOT let paying your Candidate's weekend fee become an obstacle to your prospective Candidate attending Tres Dias. How you feel about this personally may have a direct effect on whether or not your potential Candidate gets to attend Tres Dias! Most importantly, IF you do pay for your Candidate's weekend fee for whatever reason, be SURE to let your Candidate know that this is something you wanted to do and it is NOT a requirement for them to sponsor someone once they complete their Tres Dias weekend. How many Pescadores have not sponsored someone for Tres Dias because they misinterpreted the Sponsor's responsibility when it came to paying their Candidate's fee and they were simply unable to pay? Once you get agreement and have a signed application, mail it to the address shown on the application along with your $10.00 (one person) or $20.00 (couple) sponsorship fee, as appropriate for a single Candidate or a couple. Waiting times vary for many reasons, but when you do get your call from the Pre-Weekend couple, contact your Candidate to see if they can attend and get back with the Pre-Weekend couple right away! Also, let your potential Candidate know they will be hearing from the Pre-Weekend couple and they need to respond right away as well!
As the weekend approaches, make sure you have your palanca letters for your Candidate, arrange to bring them to Send-Off, attend Serenade (if appropriate), touch base with their spouse during the weekend, and be at Closing to cheer for your candidate and to return them to their home!!
Please feel free to contact Pre-weekend couples if you have any questions on Sponsorship that are not covered here. Their email address is preweekend@ngtd.org.
NOTE: The team and candidate fee has been reduced to $105.00 through the end of this year. Now is the time to act if you have been considering sponsoring someone.

CAMP OF COLORS
| |

The Camp of Colors exists to be a place for Three Day Movements to hold weekends. The Board is comprised of members from each community that holds weekends at the Camp as well as "at large" positions. For information about the Board of Directors, the history of the Camp, weekend schedules, etc., visit www.campofcolors.orgDue to the age and high usage of the Camp, ongoing maintenance is a high priority. From small things like installing more hooks in the dorms and a tilting mirror in the Special Needs dorm to having the dining room roof overlaid, something is being done at the camp every week day that the Camp is not is use.In addition, there is someone who comes in once a week to "deep clean" areas of the building on a rotating basis. Any additional work on her part due to the building not being cleaned in accordance with the Closing Checklist (found on the Camp web site) is charged back to the appropriate community. So each community should make sure they leave the Camp clean and tidy.
The Board is also working on formulating a long-term capital improvement plan. More information on this will be published as it becomes available.

TRES DIAS GUIDE FOR TEAM MEMBERS
| |
The following continues a series of excerpts from The Tres Dias Guide for Team Members.
SPECIFIC TEAM ASSIGNMENTS SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR
At least one of the Spiritual Directors shall be an ordained Christian clergy; set in place by their denomination/church. These team members have several assignments on the Weekend. When asked by candidates of table members, they provide Christian theological perspectives, both during the team meetings and frequently during the Weekend. Spiritual Directors lead worship (liturgies), give five chapel meditations, give five rollos and are involved in counseling both the team and candidates before and during the Weekend. As their name implies, they are present to provide spiritual direction.
In the next issue, we will begin a series on the relationship of the talks given on a weekend.

SECRETARIAT REMINDERS
|
The Secretariat would like to remind you that it is inappropriate to bring children to send-off, closing, serenade or other Tres Dias functions that are not "family affairs".
Further, only those that have attended a recognized 3-day weekend my attend Tres Dias functions.
We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these Tres Dias requirements.
- - -
Also a reminder to sponsors - Please urge your candidates to leave all cell phones & electronic devices at home so that they can block out the outside world & spend 3 days focusing totally on God and what He has in store for them.
- - -
There has been a growing issue with sponsors bringing candidates to send-off that have not been called for the weekend by the Secretariat. We would ask that, to avoid embarrassment to yourselves and your candidate, that you NOT bring anyone to attend a weekend that has not been called by the Secretariat. If you have a candidate that can attend at the last minute, write "last minute" on the top of the application and the application will be handled accordingly. For questions about this, or any area of sponsorship, contact the appropriate Secretariat member.
- - -
We would like to remind everyone in the community that names and addresses from weekend rosters, team lists, and or the TDNG database are for TDNG use only. This information should not be used for solicitation, or any other purpose not related to TDNG business.
Each Rector who serves the community agrees to be responsible for the collection of the team fees for their weekend. In some cases, it has been interpreted that they would have to pay for any fees that were not paid by team members. This is not the intent. It is the Rector's responsibility to ensure that a full weekend fee is collected and paid to the Secretariat, but the fee is not his/her personal liability. Any shortfall should be taken care of by scholarships and remaining incidental fees. - - - If you have a need to inform the community of a ministry, prayer need, employment opportunity or need, we encourage you to use the Facebook page mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter.

THE WORD
| |

"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."
