Message from TEAM CEO
Nancy J

Last Wednesday, City Council approved the plans for TEAM Punta Gorda's newest community garden. Funded by the Mosaic Corporation, the garden will be built just South of the History Park. Once built, the garden program will be managed by the History Park volunteers and supported by TEAM's Community Gardens Committee, chaired by Carol Moore and Tara LaBlanc.

Veteran garden-builder Heleen Schouten will oversee the build starting in late September. If you have tool and construction skills and want to volunteer to build the 36 raised beds, please let us know. This will be a short volunteer job of about one month. Volunteers are also invited to join the Community Gardens Committee to help oversee the project and to help shape the program that will operate in the new garden.
We foresee a natural link with the Farmers Market and eventually, the new library also going in on the same campus (North end of the property).

Previous TEAM Punta Gorda Community Gardens are operating at the South County Regional Park, and at Punta Gorda's Public Safety Building. Both have operated with waiting lists for garden plots. This is the most ambitious garden that TEAM has attempted, with 36 plots and room for expansion. Many thanks to the Master Gardeners Program for all of the teaching and coaching they provide.

One of the curriculum specialists at Charlotte County Public Schools advised that with their tight budgets and just maintaining their arts programs, their pianos in 18 schools have not been tuned in years!  They ask for your help by adopting a piano.
They estimate the cost to be $100 for each piano. If you can help and value in-tune pianos, contact Ellen.harvey@yourcharlotteschools.net, phone 941-255-0808, ext. 3178.
