And the winner is...

Brad Gamblinshown at left with TEAM Fund Raising Chair Jason Green.

Brad was the first to locate the TEAM  "Splash Bike" which was painted by donors as a fun part of the 2014 Giving Challenge event and then "hidden" somewhere in Punta Gorda.

As the first person to find the bike and contact TEAM, Brad won a gift certificate to the TORCH restaurant!

Congrats Brad!

"Medics on Bikes" Already At Work
Life-saving units seen at local events

If you have attended the recent air show, block party or Paint Your Heart Out, you may have seen the newest additions to the Punta Gorda Fire Department vehicle fleet.

The idea of "Medics on Bikes" was brought to the TEAM Punta Gorda Bicycle Friendly Community Committee by a police officer who serves on the committee. TEAM volunteers got to work and raised the funds to purchase the bicycles while four EMS medics were trained to use the bicycles.

The "Medics on Bikes" assisted with some relatively minor issues (scrapes from falls, heat exhaustion) at the air show and were involved in a more serious incident at the Punta Gorda Block Party.

Punta Gorda Fire Chief Briggs indicated that these bikes are the perfect tool for large events where the crowds and chaos make it a challenge to get to a person with a medical emergency. He indicated that he plans to have four more medics trained on the use of the bikes and may consider adding two more bikes to the fleet at a later time.

Jedi Retires
Canine favorite gets deserved rest
On Wednesday, April 9, Canine Jedi officially retired as a member of the Punta Gorda Police Department. He had been suffering from a painless condition that caused a gait to his rear leg and ultimately prohibited him from required certifications to continue serving our community. Jedi's handler, Police Officer First Class Jonathan Mendel will continue caring for Jedi at his home as a family pet. Jedi had many great accomplishments over his short career and the department is looking to fill the void. Preparations for selecting and training a new police canine are underway.
