Lunch at a beautiful restaurant on the Amalfi coast, overlooking the Mediterranean sea - but where is the walk manager? Everyone's having a great time, but they are wondering where this big, strong man has got to... When he appears he's terribly apologetic because he has dirt on his shirt - but why?

Patricia's been on 12 walks with The Wayfarers, and in this video recalls one of those unexpected moments that makes a vacation memorable.

You can watch Patricia's video here, or head over to our Facebook page to watch more short clips of Wayfarers' favorite moments.

Competition - Celtic blessing tea towel
We love the ancient Irish Celtic blessing for Wayfarers starting out on a journey: "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face." So we were delighted to find this lovely tea towel made by Ulster Weavers in Irish linen with the blessing on it and we have two to give away in this month's competition. Click here to enter.
Sicily - two Walks special

We have two Walks in Sicily, one in the east and one in the west of this beautiful island. We run them consecutively, giving you the option of doing both if you wish - and of course there's a special deal if you do choose both. Book both trips back-to-back and we will include transportation between Walks and a night in magical Cefalu.

Letter from Michael

With St Patrick's Day coming up next week it looks like spring is at last around the corner! Time for Wayfarers to be dusting off their hiking boots and setting out on this year's adventures.

Where better to start than St Patrick's homeland of Ireland in June? We offer two magnificent Irish Walks, one in Northern Ireland and the other in Southern Ireland. Both these trips take us to such special places - in Northern Ireland we explore historic cities, spectacular glens and wild coasts, while in Southern Ireland we tour the mystic Ring of Kerry.

One of Belfast's famous murals

History runs deep in Ireland and our black cab tour of Belfast gives a unique first-hand insight into the Troubles. We meet people who lived through those times and see the memorial plots and peace walls that they created. Many of our guests say that this is one of the most memorable and uplifting parts of the trip.

In Ireland's Ring of Kerry we immerse ourselves in ancient Irish traditions. We meet a farmer cutting turf for winter fuel and join in the fabled Irish craic with an evening of folk music and dance. My feet are tapping as I think about it!

I hope this newsletter whets your appetite to come walking with us this spring, whether it's the Emerald Isle or another of our lovely destinations.

Best wishes

Dare you cross the rope bridge of Carrick-a-Rede?

Day three on our Northern Ireland Walk takes us to Glenariff, the Queen of the Glens of Antrim, and then on to a rope bridge challenge. The famous bridge dangles over a spectacular 80-ft chasm linking the tiny island of Carrickarede to the mainland.

But do not fear if you don't have a great head for heights - crossing the bridge is optional! It comes after we have explored the unique Waterfall Walkway in Glenariff, originally opened 80 years ago.

Famed in poetry, song, myth and magic there are nine Glens of Antrim, each endowed with an evocative name and each weaving its own special magic.

They all delight the senses with their lush, green secret places, filled with the sound of water alternately softly swirling, then falling in dramatic torrents. Entwined with their rich beauty are equally diverse and magical stories, combining the colorful history, myth and traditions of the communities within the glens.

Step into this enchanted landscape with The Wayfarers as your guide.

STAY IN CHARLIE CHAPLIN'S FAVORITE HOTEL

Charlie Chaplin and his family spent many happy holidays at the Butler Arms Hotel in Waterville, County Kerry. No doubt they were attracted in the first place by the magnificent scenery in this amazing corner of South West Ireland.

After a day following the Kerry Way over soft turf and narrow tracks, enjoying magnificent Atlantic vistas and puzzling out the Celtic inscriptions on an Ogham Stone, we love the comfort and warm welcome of the Butler Arms. It is still run by the same family who owned it in Chaplin's day, who pride themselves on treating guests as friends.

The Butler Arms is one of several great places we stay on this trip, all of them offering a traditional Irish welcome. We have our final two nights at the charming Carrig Country House, right on the shores of Lake Caragh with the majestic peaks of McGillycuddys Reeks rising behind.

We spend the Friday hiking the wild, gorse and heather-covered hills above the lake, making our way to Blackstone Bridge where the salmon fishermen gather, before returning to the hotel and gathering for a superb Farewell Dinner.

First World War Centenary

This year marks is the centenary of the beginning of the First World War and while there are many commemorative events planned in Europe, The Wayfarers take you away from the crowds to explore a highly evocative and lesser known battlefield.

High up in the foothills of the Dolomites in Northern Italy, lies the battlefield of Asiago. Here the Austro-Hungarian forces battled the Italians for control of the region.

Altogether, nearly 300,000 men died and the area is still marked with the original trenches and bomb shelters, now nestling incongruously in a peaceful landscape of spruce and larch woods. The bright, white limestone peaks are dazzlingly brilliant and the air crisp and clean, ideal for hiking.

The Wayfarers Walk in the Dolomites visits the UNESCO World Heritage Site which preserves some of these sites.

Our two days in Asiago from the first part of our Venice and the Veneto Walk, which takes us from the Dolomites down to the sea at Venice. Read more about this unique itinerary on our website.

The Grand Canyon - tick it off your bucket list now!

A dawn hike to see the sun rise over Bryce Canyon, unforgettable views of sunset over the Grand Canyon, the famed Narrows Walk to Weeping Rock in Zion Canyon - our Utah trip takes you to the best places in three of the USA's greatest national parks.

The amazing Utah Walk has been a star in our portfolio for several years and it never disappoints. All hiking is on well-maintained forest and canyon trails with no sustained elevation gain of more than 400 feet.

As well as the incredible Walks, there is the chance to go horseback riding or antique shopping. And if that all sounds like just too much activity, you can always opt for a spot of poolside relaxation at our hotel.
