Power of 10 Winner
Congratulations to Ashley Montroy, this month's Power of 10 winner! Ashley started getting serious about fitness before her wedding two years ago. She wanted to look her best for her special day! But for the past year or so she has struggled with consistency. That all changed in April when she signed up for Body Beauty, Bay Athletic Club's strength training boot camp exclusively for women. She loved the camp so much that she signed up again in May! Her consistency has paid off, not only is she feeling better but she has earned herself $10 in BAC Bucks to use on logo wear, at the juice bar, or for another boot camp!

Be our next Power of 10 winner! Stay consistent with your workouts and check-in 10 or more times a month at BAC. We wll enter you into our monthly drawing and you could win $10 in BAC Bucks too!

Community Outreach
Bay Athletic Club's Chief Operating Officer, Lara Torres connected with many community members at the Fiesta Square hosted by Friends Together.  She shared the importance of strength training for women.  Going beyond statistics, she shared real life stories of women who have flipped the script from weight loss to the gains in energy, health, happiness and confidence that develops as they grow stronger.

Spring Rice Noodle Bowl
This fresh, fast and easy to assemble noodle bowl is perfect for a weeknight dinner. Best of all, it is delicious hot, cold or room temp. You can't beat that for a recipe in the Spring, when temperatures fluctuate so drastically day to day. Summer is on its way so enjoy the Thai inspired flavors of this noodle bowl before everything is all strawberries.

Ingredients:
4 oz. rice noodles, dry
4 oz. cooked protein (pork, chicken, tofu, seitan are great)
1 onion, chopped into large chunks
1 TBSP oil
2 cups of steamed snap peas
1 TBSP sesame seed oil
4 TBSP chives, diced
2 TBSP chopped peanuts
1 lime, cut for garnish
1 bunch of cilantro, stems removed

Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to boil.  When it begins to boil, in a very wide pan or wok, place the oil in the wok and heat over high heat. Add the noodles to the pot and the onions to the oil in the wok. Steam the snap peas in the microwave for 4 minutes, covered. Stir the noodles frequently to avoid clumping and stir the onions almost constantly to avoid any blackening. When the onions look limp, push them to one side of the wok and add the protein to another side to warm. Turn off the heat and cover. Drain noodles in a colander. Add noodles to the wok, along with the snap peas, and sesame seed oil. Toss together well. Remove 1 serving (about 1 and half cups of noodles and veggies) to a bowl. Add half the protein and garnish with cilantro and lime. Serves two.

A Road Trip and A Lesson for Life

I had the pleasure of traveling with BAC teammate Amanda Cordes to a conference in Indiana last week. I lead a keynote talk to 250 professionals entitled "Success is NOT convenient."  The message was real, raw and covered many areas of life --- from friendship to fitness to family to finances.

Here is the short story. Lazy is easy. Success is hard. But it's worth it. And it feels better.

For example, it's easy to choose the couch, or fast food. It is easy to check out in front of the television or mindlessly scroll the social media newsfeed.  It's easy to complain or do nothing. But, ironically, those easy choices add up to nothing more than hardships. Being unhealthy is hard. Checking out of life is hard. Ignoring reality is hard. Being unfulfilled is hard.

I encouraged the conference attendees, and I urge YOU, to make time for success. You can workout, cook a healthy meal, have a meaningful conversation, reach out to a friend, read a personal development book, get up for an early walk, carve out time for solitude, or even complete a home or work project. You will feel proud of yourself. You will feel happy. You will pass that feeling on to others.

Success requires you to GIVE the extra degree of effort, even when it is not convenient.  Why? Because your life is the cumulation of all your choices! So, choose well, hour by hour. Choose a smile. Choose to be kind. Choose to help someone. Choose to improve yourself.
Sincerely, Trina

Friends, I also want to pay tribute to our long-time BAC member, Paul Aikens, who passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. He brightened many workouts and lives in his 46 years. Our hearts go out to his beautiful wife and life partner Melanie, a huge friend and loyal member of BAC. Paul was a husband, a father of three, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a son and a friend to all.

He always had a smile, a laugh, a pat on the back or high five for everyone. The trainers at BAC adored Paul. We loved it when he was in camp and class. He added life, joy and sweat! Over his years at BAC, he participated in hundreds of classes, 33 boot camp programs, three Corporate Fit Challenges, a statewide relay race and more. He made friends and worked hard every time. Fitness and health mattered to him. We are so honored to have been a part of his journey.

We have featured Paul in two of our
60 Second Inspiration Stories over the years. He was honest about his health, his struggles and his desire to be healthy. His story inspired many others in our community to take action. That impact will never be forgotten. We are so proud of the gains he made in his health and so very sorry for his early loss.

With love and sadness, we say good-bye to a wonderful human being.
