CORPORATE FIT - SUCCESS STORY
Mike Lavens started his fitness journey during a Corporate Fit Challenge with DPI this past February. He hadn't exercised in 20 years. He was in his mid-40s and already suffering from several health issues.

After meeting with his coach something clicked! He no longer wanted to eat a whole pizza everyday, he didn't want to feel tired all day long, he didn't want to worry about leaving his wife and kids without a dad.

Over the next six weeks, Mike started exercising daily and overhauled his nutrition.  He went from a guy that told his coach he never ate vegetables to cooking meals filled with them!  By the end of the CFC he had lost 20 pounds, which was 25% of his entire weight loss goal!

Mike's advice is to stop waiting.  There will never be a perfect time to get healthy. Mike waited 20 years and it was almost too late. Thankfully, the CFC was the jump start he needed. Mike has continued his healthier lifestyle and all of his previous health problems have subsided!
The time to change is never perfect. Start today and contact Kelly at 356-5600 or email [email protected] if you have any questions on how to start planning a Corporate Fit Challenge with your co-workers.

Spice Up Your Summer Party with a Healthy Recipe!

Salsa verde is the way to do it. This easy to make sauce is a snap to bring together when friends are gathering around the grill or simply for a weeknight addition to taco night. It's less acidic than traditional red salsa, since there are no tomatoes, but packed with vitamins and minerals from the main ingredient, tomatillos. I've added flavor by charring the vegetables before simply pulsing them in a blender. Paired with cilantro and a fresh squeeze of lime juice, this quick and easy salsa should be the star of your next fiesta. Enjoy!

1 lbs. green tomatillo

2 jalapenos

2 banana peppers

1 TBSP olive oil

1 tsp. black pepper

1 garlic clove

1 lime, juiced

2 TBSP fresh cilantro, stems removed

Remove the husks from the tomatillo and rinse and scrub the sap from the flesh. Dry well and add to a bowl with the clean peppers, oil and pepper. Heat your grill to 500 degrees or higher and place the oiled veggies directly on the grill. Allow the flesh to blacken and then flip over. The peppers will cook first. When the skin of the peppers looks well done, remove from the grill and place in a brown paper bag. This will allow the skin to steam away from the flesh of the pepper and makes removal a cinch.

The tomatillos will take about 15 minutes . You'll know they are ready when blackened on both sides, but still holding their shape. Remove and place in the oiled bowl and allow to cool for a few minutes while you prep the other ingredients. Add everything to the blender and pulse 5 times or until the mixture is consistent, but not homogenous.

Why I am Grateful.
It rained a lot today. It's okay. The grass needed it. But the kids were anxious to move! So, I made up a fun scavenger hunt. The twist? Each time they found a new clue, they were instructed in the note to do something active! Frog jump to the kitchen, bear crawl to the laundry room, run to the mailbox, climb two sets of stairs, crab walk to the front door, do 10 partner squats, 10 pushups, run around the house. The kids were laughing so hard and trying to sprint through the fitness so they could find the next clue. The clues were all over my house -- in the turtle tank, in the freezer, in the dog bowl, in a Harry Potter book, in the fire pit. They were all over the map. The best thing? We were all a bit crabby beforehand. I was tired and thinking about my to-do list for tonight. The kids were on each other's nerves. And then? We got moving, got laughing and got re-invigorated!

I'm grateful that my kids know fitness as a way of life and will jump in a silly game.
I'm grateful that my husband volunteered to grocery shop and cook chicken tacos while we had fun. On a larger scale, I'm grateful for this amazing club, our team, our members and our supporters across the country. We've changed thousands of lives already and will keep at it with just as much conviction. #livegrateful This is a month of giving back.

It's our 3rd annual summer of FREE cooking demos. Have you attended yet?

During our July event, Personal Trainer and Precision Nutrition coach Rick Houchin blasted away myths around low-fat foods, sharing that fats are essential to our bodies, we just need the right kinds. Eggs, avocados, olive oil are all great sources. Try to stay as close to the way nature intended food to be.

Personal Trainer and Fresh Loving Foodie, Kelly Lake assembled a healthy Tex Mex Summer Salad featuring golden beets, red cabbage, black beans, fresh corn, spinach, tomatoes, pepitas and a fresh garlic avocado dressing.

Ami Lenning, Personal Trainer and Owner of Chez Ami, treated everyone to a quinoa salad, chicken meatballs, and strawberry turkey roll-ups.
