I must have blinked, because it seems like yesterday I was taking

a refreshing dip in the lake, and today I'm gazing out my window at a whirlwind of golds and reds as the autumn breeze teases the leaves off the trees. Aah, the holidays are fast approaching - my favorite time of year!

While November and December are festive, it's no doubt the busiest time of the year, and many homeowners are decorating their houses for the holidays. In this month's Feature Article, we share some easy and fun window decorating ideas. Even if you weren't able to fully redecorate as planned, you can still have festive rooms with these simple window ideas.

In the spirit of giving thanks, it is important to us to give back to our community.  I am excited to introduce a charitable project that Sew Beautiful has been invited to participate in - the DeColArt Design Show House, which benefits the Wellness House in Annapolis, a charity that helps those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For more details, including dates and times for the open house, please read our Featured Project.

Finally, during this season of giving thanks, I realize how blessed I am to work with so many wonderful clients, who have helped me realize my dream and make what I do truly enjoyable. I am equally blessed with my hard-working staff, without whom I could not accomplish it all.  Thank you Sheri, Lisa and Laura - your commitment to excellence and loyalty to our customers is inspiring.
And lastly, I'm thankful for my loving family, whose support and love is a priceless gift!

May you all enjoy a safe and happy holiday season!

All the best -

Did You Know...

...how holiday colors came to be?

Christmas: Green is commonly associated with Christmas because evergreens have long been used to brighten up homes throughout the long, dark winters. The Romans used to exchange evergreen branches as a sign of good luck. Red is the color of holly berries, which is said to represent the blood of Christ. Gold is the color of sun and light, and more importantly, the color of the star that the wise men followed.

Hanukkah: Blue and white are the colors of a Tallit (prayer shawl), and the Israeli flag, which symbolizes a Star of David on a Tallit. In the Bible, the Israelites are commanded to have some of their Tallit dyed blue to remind them of the sky, God and Heaven.

Feature Project - DeColArt Show HomeDeColArt

Sew Beautiful is honored and excited to have been invited to participate in the DeColArt Design Show House. This project is a collaboration among designers and artists, and benefits the Wellness House in Annapolis - a charity that provides free services and programs to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

This Show House features a condo, one of three in a converted historic 19th-century church in downtown Annapolis. The kitchen window we were given is the ONLY window in the entire condo, and it is spectacular!

However, this window presents some unique challenges. It is a tall church window with gothic arches and stained glass, and rises three stories in this loft-style condo. Having a west-facing orientation, light control is essential, especially for late afternoon in the summer months. We came up with what we believe is the perfect solution for this window. One that will enhance its natural beauty while providing functionality.

To see how we achieved the ideal window treatment for this unique challenge, please come visit this amazing Design Show House/Art Gallery December 10 - 15, 2015, from 10:00am - 6:00pm each day. The address is 39-1/2 Maryland Ave., Unit 2, Annapolis, Md., at the corner of Prince George St.

Holiday Window Decor

Windows are important. They are not only the lenses through which we see the world, but they are also how the world views us! Even if you weren't able to redecorate as planned, don't despair - you can still make your windows and rooms very festive with simple holiday decor! Decorate them for the fall and winter holidays in unique and creative ways that will transform your home into a holiday wonderland! Following are some of our favorite ideas.

Window Boxes look beautiful bursting with in-season foliage. During the fall, colorful mums, gourds and greenery create an appealing display. In the winter months, choose evergreens sprinkled with pine cones or red berries. A colorful bow makes a nice finishing touch!

Seasonal wreaths
are the perfect way to decorate any window, any time of year. Wreaths are not just for outdoors - hang a row of them to bring festive attention to a large bank of windows or a sliding glass door. Hang them from your curtain rod with ribbon or hang them directly on your windows with removable adhesive hooks. Or even hang wreaths in a staggered pattern going up your stairway. Have fun with them!

Valances
don't have to be made of fabric, and Garlands don't have to be made out of greenery - let the season inspire you! For a whimsical appeal, use holiday-themed items, such as ribbon-wrapped packages or candy canes, as your valance. Ornaments, hung from ribbon or beads, reflect light and make your window dazzle in its own "jewelry!" Drape wooden or glass beads down your existing panels to transform them.
