As the warm breeze rustles the fringe on your beach umbrella and the summer sun kisses the sand between your toes, you should be thinking of Christmas. Wait, what? Even though the Holidays are likely the furthest thing from your mind, now is actually the best time to start thinking about home decor projects you'd like to see completed by winter.

To see why this makes sense, read our Feature Article, Christmas in July. We have outlined simple tips for getting you organized with your decorating so you won't have to face "Holiday panic" once fall comes!

In our Feature Project, have a look at a gorgeous dining room we recently updated for a client. New window treatments, plus reupholstery and a few soft furnishings, bring the room to life.

Thinking about Christmas in July will yield you rich rewards come autumn. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and remember to call us for an in-home consultation for your holiday decorating needs!

All the best -

Did You Know...

..."Double Rubs" are an industry standard way of testing abrasion tolerance. Recently, manufacturers have begun performing extreme abrasion tests, specifying results of 100,000+ double rubs. In actuality, fabric that meets 15,000 double rubs is more than sufficient for residential upholstery. Furniture with light use, such as accent chairs, can even go as low as 9,000 double rubs without any wearing issues. With regard to double rubs, consider the application, and refer to the following guidelines: Light use: 9,000-11,000; medium use: 12,000-15,000; heavy use: 15,000+.

Because it's more likely that the style of the fabric will wear on you before the actual fibers do, it's important to select fabrics that appeal aesthetically to you!

Feature Project

With the 4th of July behind us, it's time to start preparing for the Holidays! We recently helped a client with some decor projects that she planned in anticipation of holiday entertaining.

The dining room chair seats, newly upholstered in a classic houndstooth fabric,
coordinate with the versatile, reversible table runner.

Stationary panels, trimmed in a rich gold and navy tassel, frame the wall of French doors.
The addition of two monogrammed, decorative pillows in coordinating fabrics
add the finishing touches.

Voila! By making just a few changes, our client now has an updated, fresh dining room. Best of all, it's ready for Holiday entertaining, and she can now go enjoy the rest of the summer!

Christmas in July

Everyone wants his or her home to look its best during the Holidays; however, that is exactly the season when time is in short supply. Not only do you have numerous tasks, but designers are also quite busy in the fall. Projects such as upholstery, custom window treatments and bedding can take from six to eight weeks after colors and fabrics are chosen. If you wait until the fall to plan your home design projects, they may not be ready by the time your Holiday guests arrive.

Here are some tips to help you get started on your home decorating projects:
  1. Define the scope of your project - are you planning a complete room makeover, or do you just need new draperies for your dining room or new bedding for your guest bedroom?
  2. Set a goal or timeline of when you'd like the project to be finished - for Thanksgiving, Christmas or a special Holiday party you're hosting? Plan ahead to allow plenty of time - summer is a great time to start thinking about Holiday projects.
  3. Establish a budget - How much will it cost to turn your home decorating ideas into reality? If your wish list is larger than your budget, consider doing your project in phases, or just concentrate on one room at a time.
  4. Discover your own unique decorating style - while lying on the beach or poolside, peruse magazines, Houzz or Pinterest. Make a portfolio of ideas - photos to show your decorator so they too can see what you're envisioning.
  5. Consider the small changes that will make a big impact - paint a room, get a new rug, add throw pillows or new artwork to spruce up your space without planning a whole-room makeover.
  6. Hire a designer to help you with your project - with their access to resources, he/she can help you realize your vision and keep it on a timeline.

Even minor changes can give your room a totally updated look. You will be confident because your Holiday guests will feel relaxed and comfortable in the beautiful areas you helped to create!

Remember to start thinking about these projects soon - you'll be glad you did. And for those items you weren't able to get around to, why not add them to Santa's list!
