Copy Security in GP Reports Viewer

GP Reports Viewer has new features for copying security

We have released a new build of GP Reports Viewer for Dynamics GP 2013 and 2015.

These builds have a few minor fixes and enhancements, but the big news are the new features we have added for copying security from one user to another and from one report to another.

Now when you set up a new user in Dynamics GP, you can go to the GP Reports Viewer Security window and copy the permissions from an existing user to the new one with just a few clicks.

Same for a new report - just go to the Security window and select the report to copy from and all user permissions will automatically be copied to the new report.

To download the new builds of GP Reports Viewer, please visit our downloads page and select Build 5 for Dynamics GP 2015 or Build 14 for Dynamics GP 2013.

Instructions on upgrading to a new build or version of GP Reports Viewer are in our User Guide.

Please note that all GP Reports Viewer builds are cumulative and backwards compatible within the same Dynamics GP version. So if you're upgrading to GP 2015, even if you're not on GP 2015 R2, use the latest build of GP Reports Viewer available.

Use Can Grow in Crystal Reports

How Can Grow in Crystal Reports can help with varying field size

One of the things that we get a lot of requests for when creating Crystal Reports is fields that autogrow based on content. This is particularly helpful for things like line item comments on invoices and purchase orders, where some lines may not have a comment at all, but other lines can have almost a paragraph of text.

Crystal Reports deals with this very nicely. When you add a field to the report, you can right click on it and select Format Field, then go to the Common tab. There you will see a Can Grow field - this will be selected by default and you also have some additional options here for a maximum number of lines, alignment and even text rotation.

With this option you have the ability to easily show the entire contents of the line item comment or any other text field when the size may be very different from one record to another.

Best of all? No need to use the 4 lines of 50 characters anymore, or worrying about splitting text fields into 80 characters at a time.

Use Can Grow in SSRS
How Can Grow in SSRS can help with varying field size

Similarly, SSRS has the ability to autogrow fields. And just like Crystal Reports this feature is automatic, so every field you add will have Can Grow set to True by default.

Unlike Crystal Reports there are no maximum line options, but in my experience those are rarely used anyway.

To see or change the Can Grow setting, click on a textbox in the SSRS designer scroll down to the General Settings section in the Properties window.

Looking for a solution to manage Crystal and SSRS reports inside of Dynamics GP quickly and easily? An online demo of GP Reports Viewer is available anytime on our demo web page.

If you would like to schedule a live demo of GP Reports Viewer with us, please call 212-254-4112 and choose option 1 for Sales or e-mail [email protected].

You can also download a fully functional trial for the Dynamics GP sample company. Expiring registration keys are available upon request if you would like to test GP Reports Viewer with your company data.
