Join us for our Schools of the Future, Making Connections Today Symposium on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in Lansing.  It will be a fast-paced, powerful, idea sharing day to plant seeds for now and well into the future.  This symposium is an effort of the U.S. Green Building Council Chapters of West Michigan and Detroit Regional.  We anticipate hearing at least from 15 presenters between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.   Presentations will be 15 minutes or less.

Have an idea about what our schools should or could look like in the future?  Apply to be a presenter or entertainer!  Talks or entertainment acts will be 15 minutes or less.  We will be live streaming for a larger audience and also video taping each presentation for posting on the web for later viewing.

GET INVOLVED:

Elementary and secondary public schools are centers of nearly 100,000 communities across the United States, yet American citizens and public officials have a poor understanding of the scale of this infrastructure and its condition. School districts often find themselves in the precarious position of having to choose between curricular resources and facility resources, without adequate information to make informed decisions.

This report, which features an inspiring introduction from President Bill Clinton, brings to light the fact that we are lacking critical data that allow us to address the safety, health, education and environmental challenges of our public school facilities. Better understanding would allow us to not only demonstrate that green schools can bring significant benefits to school and district facilities, but prove that we can invest schools' limited resources more efficiently, effectively and equitably.

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

LEEDv4 6th comment period is open now until March 31st for review and comment http://new.usgbc.org/leed/v4#credits.  Of the 23 categories that will be changing in v4, there are 8 which are open for comment during this period.  Please take time to review and comment as this is our opportunity to have input into the next version of LEED.  The next step will be voting in June. Watch the USGBC website for details.

Did you know the Chapter Membership for Emerging Professionals (EP) effective April 1st will be reduced by 50% to $35 or $25 (depending on membership type)? To qualify you must be under 30 years old and out of school.  Please pass this information on to a co-worker or friend that you think would be interested in joining the Chapter.
