GREEN APPLE DAY OF SERVICE
Green Apple Day of Service

The first-ever Green Apple Day of Service on September 29, 2012 was a tremendous day of action with projects in nearly 1,300 communities around the world. People connected to their schools in an entirely new way, and demonstrated the potential for international engagement in support of healthy, high performing schools.

Click on the infographic above to read more about Green Apple Day of Service.

Stay tuned to the Chapter for a slate of projects and to get involved in Green Apple Day of Service 2013.

The EBies Celebrate Outstanding Building Performance

Now in its second year, The EBie Awards™ are a nationwide juried competition created by Urban Green Council, USGBC New York, that celebrates performance improvements in Existing Buildings (therefore the EBies), and the people who made them happen.

The EBies recognizes "unsung heroes" who have made great strides in improving environmental performance but whose accomplishments may otherwise go unheralded - not just building owners, but building operators, auditors, commissioning agents, lighting designers, plumbing engineers, and others. Unlike other awards, the EBies are based on measurable improvements; complete details and past winners can be found on the EBie website.

As an official EBie Partner, the West Michigan Chapter hopes West Michigan will have many EBie entries as well as winners-since we know how many great sustainability projects we have here in West Michigan!

The EBie submission period is open now and runs through
February 26, 2013, with winners announced at the EBie Awards LIVE on June 19, 2013 in New York City. Stay tuned to our newsletter for the latest EBie details!

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Wow, it's the start of a new year already!  Looking forward in 2013 there will be a new version of the LEED rating system voted on in June with implementation scheduled in October.

Mark your calendars! There will be a Green Schools Conference, Schools of the Future - Starting Today, on June 21st in Lansing. More details will follow on the conference along with a call for presenters.

The January Board of Directors meeting has been delayed due to weather so we will not be able to announce the new executive committee members until the February issue of the newsletter. Stay tuned!
