*******************************
In 2012, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh looks forward
to the development of four key components of our expanded mission to serve local communities:
NEW CONSTRUCTION - one of the core components of our program, we will continue to build new homes when and where appropriate and we will build those homes to green standards. New homes take up to one year to plan and build with volunteers.
REHAB - Habitat has consistently worked to rehabilitate homes for new program families. The difference in our new mission is that we will not only rehab home for new homeowners, but we will enable current local homeowners the opportunity to remain in their homes by doing critical repairs (such as roof replacement) at an affordable cost with volunteer labor. Working through bank programs, we can obtain homes that might need minimum upgrade for a new program participant. These homes can be ready for occupancy within several months.
WEATHERIZATION - expanding the number of clients we can serve in a community, our new weatherization program will cover a wide range of funding levels and demonstrate energy conservation for homeowners. Weatherization homes are also very volunteer friendly and cost effective.
A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS - A new program that includes minor repairs to the exteriors of current homeowners. Activities include painting, landscaping, handicap ramp repair, and other volunteer-friendly activities.
These four construction-based activities will enable Habitat for Humanity the ability to serve more families, impact a broader range of communities, engage additional volunteers, and have a positive overall impact on the Greater Pittsburgh area.
