Cornerstone Title & Escrow Inc. was sued by the Maryland Attorney General for its alleged participation in a scheme to defraud homeowners on the brink of foreclosure. Evanston Insurance Company, Cornerstone's professional liability carrier, refused to defend or indemnify on grounds that the policy's "dishonest acts" exclusion, among others, applied to bar coverage.

The plaintiff, Arch Insurance Company (Arch), brought a declaratory judgment action against Illinois Union Insurance Company and Harleysville Worcester Insurance Company the defendants, seeking indemnification for payments made to settle a personal injury claim brought by Enio Rodrigues, an employee of the defendants' insured, Erie Painting & Maintenance, Inc., against Arch's insured, the New York State Thruway Authority (Authority).

Cyber criminals continue to conduct Telephony Denial of Service (TDoS) attacks to extort money from businesses and governments that rely heavily on telephones. In a TDoS attack criminals flood a victim's telephone lines with fake calls that makes it impossible to use their telephones. The criminals then demand payment to stop the jamming calls and make the phone lines functional again.

Revising its more than thirty-year old guidance, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) this week issued updated and far-reaching "Enforcement Guidance on Pregnancy Discrimination and Related Issues." The new Guidance incorporates pregnancy-related conditions into the definition of disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and discusses when and how an employer must provide reasonable accommodations for these conditions. The Guidance also expresses the EEOC's view that the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) covers not only discrimination related to pregnant employees but also discrimination based on past pregnancy or a woman's potential to become pregnant.
