Dear Friends,
We're delighted to share with you the news that Mike and Renee have added Misty Valley Books in Chester, Vermont to our family of bookstores! Please come by and visit Misty Valley's wonderful booksellers, Kim, Amanda, John, and Sylvan, at this iconic Vermont shop.
With long summer days rolling in, books are the ultimate carefree entertainment: They're portable, long-lasting, and tough, and you don't have to put a book in a special bin when you go through airport security! Books are also a light-handed way to pass on advice to the graduate in your life, or to say thank you to your favorite dad, so if you're searching for a gift, please don't hesitate to stop by. We're happy to help!
Sincerely,
Mike, Renee, Adam, Ali, Amaal, Amanda, Beth, Bianca, Christy, Colleen, Donna, Drew, Eliza, Erik, Heather, JoAnna, Johanna, John, Kaitlin, Kari, Kathy, Kelly, Kim, Kristen, Laura, Lynn, Maggie, Michael, Monika, Phil, Rachel F., Rachel O., Rachel T., Rebecca, Sean, Sylvan, Tod, Tricia, Wendy, and Will

VISIT US IN CHESTER!
Phoenix Books adds Misty Valley Books in Chester, VT to its growing family of bookstores
Mike DeSanto and Renee Reiner, the owners of Phoenix Books, have purchased Chester's Misty Valley Books. Mike and Renee met with Lynne and Bill Reed - who bought the Chester landmark in 2001 - for the closing on Monday, May 16th. "Twenty-one years ago," says Renee, "as Mike and I embarked on this adventure, we considered buying Misty Valley Books from the original owners, Dwight Currie and Michael Kohlmann. So it feels like we've come full circle. We are so delighted to have Misty Valley as part of our Phoenix family!" "It feels fitting to keep Misty Valley going and growing as part of our goal to preserve local independent bookstores and strengthen the communities hosting the stores," adds Mike. "We hope to complete the transition with no interruption in the high level of service Chester and the surrounding communities have seen over the years. Bill and Lynne Reed have lovingly owned and operated this iconic New England independent bookstore, and our intent is to keep intact all the traditions surrounding the store while adding a few new ideas from the experience of owning and operating three other stores in Rutland, Essex and Burlington. The wonderful programming, especially New Voices and Vermont Voices, will continue, with guidance from the Reeds, we hope. The present staff has been invited to stay on, so customers may not even notice the change in ownership. We look forward to serving the community for many years to come." Read more. GIFT OF THE MONTH
Pens! The perfect gift for grads, dads, and anyone who loves the written word.
Yes, the rumors are true! Phoenix Books is now offering a wide array of writing implements to our customers in our Burlington and Essex locations. These pens range from inexpensive gel pens, ballpoints, and rollerballs to fountain pens for newbies and experienced enthusiasts alike. We're also stocked up on ink cartridges and bottled fountain pen ink, along with a variety of other supplies. We'd like to introduce you to the two lines of fountain pens we're carrying:
Lamy is a German pen manufacturer, known for their starter fountain pens which come in a lot of fun colors. Every year, Lamy releases special editions of these pens and inks, which many fans enjoy collecting. The latest special edition is the gorgeous Dark Lilac Lamy Safari. (Six of of these were purchased by Phoenix booksellers the very first day we had them in the store!) The nibs for Lamy pens can be easily removed and swapped, allowing you to customize your pens for different writing effects, including calligraphy. Pilot pens will be familiar to many of you. We should have something for everyone from our selection of Pilot pens and inks. One product of note is the Pilot Metropolitan, a starter fountain pen which represents the best value for a fountain pen on the market. It comes in several colors and patterns, and we've stocked all of them!
