 April 2016
Dear Friends,

Spring is a time when the natural world begins to buzz with activity, and we're doing the same here at Phoenix Books.  We're celebrating National Poetry Month and Independent Bookstore Day this April, and we'll honor the upcoming centennial of America's National Park Service as well as local history. And that's not all!  Read on for the full program of April events, new titles and gifts, and the latest news.

Whatever your own projects this spring - gardening or building, eating farm fresh, delving into current events, or giving yourself more down time with a good read - come on by, and we'll be glad to show you to a book that will help that project along!

Sincerely,

Mike, Renee, Adam, Ali, Amaal, Beth, Bianca, Christy, Colleen, Donna, Drew, Eliza, Erik, Heather, JoAnna, Johanna, Kaitlin, Kari, Kathy, Kelly, Kristen, Laura, Lynn, Maggie, Michael, Monika, Phil, Rachel F., Rachel O., Rachel T., Rebecca, Sean, Tod, Tricia, Wendy, and Will

JOURNEYING TO OTHER WORLDS
Speculative fiction at Phoenix Books Burlington

This March, Phoenix Books Burlington hosted Brian Staveley, Rachel Carter, Asher Ellis, Kristin Dearborn, and Mike Luoma in a pair of events that let attendees escape our strange winter weather for more fantastic climes.  We were proud to help launch Brian Staveley's The Last Mortal Bond, as well as to partner with Geek Mountain State on a group reading that garnered attention from local media.

GIFT OF THE MONTH
The Book Lovers' Soy Candle from Frostbeard Studio

We can't help but love these Book Lovers' Soy Candles by Frostbeard Studio!  Now you can experience your favorite books in a whole new way, with scents like The Shire, Winterfell, and Through the Wardrobe...

Frostbeard Studio, based in northeast Minneapolis, started out in 2012 as a pottery studio. Roxie is a ceramicist and Tom was working as a commercial animator. A year later, almost by accident, they became candlemakers. Roxie was trying to find a 'library-scented' candle online, but nothing was showing up. Being crafty DIYers, they ordered some supplies and made their first candle.  The candles quickly outpaced the pottery, and it was obvious they were on to something!

VERMONT'S LEADING POETS ON PBS
Sponsored in part by Phoenix Books

Vermont PBS welcomes spring - and April's National Poetry Month - with a celebration of Vermont poetry in its new series, Poets and Their Craft. The ten-part series, launching both on-air and online, puts a spotlight on some of the state's leading poets as they give intimate readings and reflect on the creative process. The programs were recorded during the 2015 Poets & Their Craft readings and discussions held in independent bookstores across the state - including Phoenix Books Burlington!

"Poets and Their Craft" premiered Thursday, March 24. On air, back-to-back episodes will air Thursdays at 7 and 7:30 p.m. for five consecutive weeks. Online viewing, available to Vermonters anytime, anywhere, is accessible at vermontpbs.org/poets.
