UPCOMING EVENTS
February highlights at Phoenix Books
Calling all witches, wizards, and Muggles! Phoenix Books Essex will kick off the month with Harry Potter Book Night: A Night of Spells (2/4), and you're invited to an evening of games, activities, readings and quizzes. We'll be dressing up the venue, and the Cafe at Phoenix Books will be serving up specials inspired by some of the scrumptious wizard foods in the books.
Phoenix Books Burlington will host two author events this month: Activist, theologian, and teacher Matthew O'Neil, will visit for a talk on his book What the Bible Really Does (and Doesn't) Say About Sex on 2/11. This book is a biblically based counter to the arguments made by the Christian right in debates over gay marriage, women's rights, contraception, and abortion.
On 2/18, Deborah Felmeth will visit Burlington to speak about the people of Syria, the fabric of their culture, her photographs, and the "birth" of her book Syria, Remember Me. Since 1996 and until Syria's recent upheaval and the heartbreaking tragedy of war, Felmeth and her husband divided their time equally between a beloved apartment above Straight Street in the Old City of Damascus and their equally beloved home in the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Find our complete February events schedule here, on our website.
