2015 BESTSELLERS & STAFF PICKS
Local authors & new booksellers at Phoenix Books
Our 2015 bestsellers here at Phoenix Books have been rich in local titles, including many books by authors who are long-time favorites here at Phoenix. The runaway bestseller for the year, though, was a debut title, John and Jennifer Churchman's Sweet Pea & Friends: The SheepOver. Filled with enchanting photo-illustrations, this picture book set on a farm right here in Essex, Vermont, has become a picture book phenomenon and enchanted readers of all ages . Click here to peruse a selection of our 2015 bestsellers.
Our bookselling family has grown in 2015, thanks in large part to our new location in Rutland! You can find out what we've been reading over the past year - including lots of new books and some old favorites - right here, on our website. One notable pick is Syria: Remember Me, by Deborah Felmeth, which Renee calls "the most important book of the season." Keep an eye out for an event with Deborah in February!

PHOENIX BOOKSELLERS RECOGNIZED
American Booksellers Association honors two Phoenix Books staff members
Kari received a scholarship to Winter Institute, which is an annual gathering of indie booksellers, publishers, and authors from across the country for four days of education and networking. This year's Institute is in Denver, Colorado from January 23rd through 26th. Colleen was one of 87 booksellers (and the only bookseller in VT!) awarded a Holiday Bonus by James Patterson. Patterson said, "These holiday bonuses are my humble acknowledgement of the important work they do all year. Here's to you, booksellers, and to a joyful holiday season!" Congratulations to Kari and Colleen!

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
Making changes at the turn of the year
What are your New Year's resolutions this year? Whether it's to start a new hobby, to get healthier, or to spend more time outdoors, we have books that can provide the tools and inspiration to make your resolution a reality. Here are a couple of examples: Brilliantly researched, impassioned, and accessible, Presence, by Amy Cuddy, is filled with stories of individuals who learned how to flourish during the stressful moments that once terrified them. Every reader will learn how to approach their biggest challenges with confidence instead of dread, and to leave them with satisfaction instead of regret. Incorporating traditional wisdom and scientific information, The Herbal Apothecary, by J. J. Pursell , includes advice on growing and foraging for healing plants and recommendations for plant-based formulations to fight common ailments, like muscle strain, anxiety, and insomnia. Whether you want to treat a wound or fight the common cold, taking charge of your health and well-being begins here. In The Awakened Introvert, mindfulness expert and card-carrying introvert Arnie Kozak provides a comprehensive set of mindfulness and cognitive behavioral tools to help you maximize your introvert strengths (such as rich access to your interior) while minimizing your introvert weaknesses (such as a tendency toward worry and rumination). In the book, you'll learn powerful strategies to help you monitor your energy; recharge after social interactions; improve social and communication skills; and take advantage of your capacity for quiet reflection, and sweet, sweet solitude.
