 | Dear Friends,
We're entering the season of Thanksgiving, and this year we have more to be grateful for than ever.  We've been overwhelmed, in the best of ways, by the response to Phoenix Books Rutland's opening. We're proud to be part of a community that supports independent businesses, and we'd like to thank you, our customers at all three locations, for doing just that. Read on for the latest news and a run-down of the wide range of events we have coming up this month.  We've also chosen an array of new and notable titles, which you can find by clicking on any of the cover images in the sidebar.
     Sincerely,
Mike, Renee, Adam, Ali, Beth, Bianca, Christy, Colleen, Dan, Donna, Eliza, Erik, Heather, Johanna, Kaitlin, Kari, Kelly, Kristen, Lynn, Michael, Monika, Phil, Rachel F., Rachel O., Rachel T., Rebecca, Sean, Tod, Tricia, Wendy, and Will

UPCOMING EVENTS
 November highlights at Phoenix Books
Find our complete November events schedule here, on our website. In Rutland, we're thrilled to be hosting Stephen Kiernan (11/12), whose new novel The Hummingbird launched at Phoenix Books Burlington earlier this fall.

Phoenix Books Burlington will host a barrage of exciting events this month, starting with Bobby Hackney (11/4), whose new book Rock 'n' Roll Victims: The Story of a Band Called Death is a must-read for punk rock fans and anyone who enjoyed the massively popular documentary A Band Called Death.  On 11/5, Arnie Kozak will offer tips for living mindfully in a hectic world at his talk about Mindfulness A to Z.  We're extremely excited for Catherynne Valente's visit on 11/8:  If you loved The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland as much as we did, you won't want to miss Catherynne or her new adult novel Radiance.  On Veteran's Day (11/11), Bill Mares and Bill Lipke will discuss Grafting Memory: Essays on War and Commemoration. Sydney Lea, Vermont's poet laureate, will speak on 11/12 along with Neil Shepard and Brett Ann Stanciu.  All three authors have new works out from the Vermont-based Green Writers Press.  For our final author event of the month, we'll host John Killacky and Larry Connolly (11/18), who are both contributors to QDA: A Queer Disability Anthology.  During Thanksgiving week, you can pick up a Shop Small Passport to support local businesses and win great prizes!

All three locations will celebrate the official beginning of the holiday shopping season with Cider Monday - a delicious and convivial alternative to Cyber Monday - on 11/30.

Phoenix Books Awarded Independent Spirit AwardNEWS FROM NEIBA'S FALL CONFERENCE

Five Phoenix booksellers attended the 42nd annual New England Independent Booksellers Association Fall Conference in Providence, RI this October, where Phoenix was awarded the 2015 Independent Spirit Award, sponsored by Book Publishers Reps of New England. Phoenix Books received two nights lodging at the conference and a free ticket to all NEIBA meals for one of our booksellers. Renee Reiner accepted the award at The New England Book Awards banquet, which was held at the Biltmore Hotel.Debra Woodward of Red Wheel/Weiser, the BPRNE member who nominated Phoenix, wrote: "The booksellers at Phoenix Books really believe in community and making good books more widely available to the public. They also believe in independent bookselling.  They worked hard to make their store a destination out in Essex, and then when Burlington had a need for a full-service bookstore, they jumped in. They also believe in employing as many booksellers as they can and paying them fairly. I want to give a special shout-out to Beth Wagner who started as a bookseller and moved on to gift buyer, then children's book buyer. She is now the buyer for all books and takes her book buying quite seriously and uses Edelweiss wisely."  Thank you to Debra and to BPRNE!
