            | | Dear Friends,  February might be a cold month here in Vermont, but we hope it won't keep you cooped up in the house - especially with the variety of events we have coming up at Phoenix Books.  Today, on the first, we have the ultimate armchair travel event for anyone who's caught cabin fever: a series of readings by local sci fi authors, whose stories will take you through time and space.  Later in the month, we'll welcome local historian Michelle Arnosky Sherburne as well as New York Times bestselling author Jennifer McMahon.  For our youngest readers, we'll have a visit from Ladybug Girl. We're honored to host the first meeting of the Sustainable Communities Forum on February 8th.  At this remarkable event, over a dozen speakers- selected for their expertise and/or leadership in creating a durable local economy - will hold forth for five minutes each. The Forum will be followed by a series of Circles where individuals will meet together to network and discuss topics of particular interest to them.  We hope you'll join us in this important conversation.  (Seating is limited, so please RSVP to 448-3350.) Below, you can find more information on these events, our monthly Phoenix Profile, and a sampling of new titles for all ages.   Sincerely,
Mike, Renee, Adam, Beth, Christy, Colleen, Dan, Donna, Evelyn, Heather, Kari, Kathy, Kelly, Kit, Kristen, Nick, Phil, Rachel F., Rachel O., Sean, Tod, and Wendy

            | | For this month's installment of "Phoenix Profiles," we're featuring Donna, a bookseller at Phoenix Books Essex - and the artist behind the remarkable felted wool sculptures and painted stones (pictured above) that you can find at Phoenix Books Essex. PHOENIX PROFILES: DONNA

Born in Canada, Donna moved to Vermont eleven years ago. It is here that she was introduced to the fascinating world of wool and felting. Always an avid crafter and artist, "It is through the manipulation of raw fibers," she says, "that I am able to 'sculpt' and 'paint' and thereby bring to life the world around me, both real and imagined." Donna is a  member of the Essex Art League.
