Countdown to Noon

One of our most popular annual events is Countdown to Noon! Join us for the fun and festivity.

Can't wait till midnight? It's midnight somewhere in the world. Watch the ball drop and make some noise. New Year's activities begin in the Great Lakes Room at 11:00 am. Make your own party hats, noise makers, and 2013 time capsules. Countdown begins at 11:59 am. Activities continue until 3:00 pm.
SwingShift and the Stars!
Final Event - Friday, December 20, 6:30 -10:30 pm
The Great Lakes Children's Museum had a lot of fun again at the November SwingShift and the Stars event, a dance-off charity benefit in Traverse City. It was another fabulous night for everyone who attended. They got to watch the competition and get out on the dance floor themselves. The country music and classic rock kept the crowd scootin' and rockin'.

We remain exceeding grateful to Lars and Lauren for all of their hard work rehearsing their dances, and especially for their willingness to put themselves and their dancing on the line for the Museum. Last month they performed a really fun high energy two-step and took second place in the judging. For more photos from November's rehearsal and event click here or on their photo.

The Great Lakes Children's Museum raised $10,183 in November for a season total of $17,650 so far. And you have one more chance...

SwingShift ClickableTickets are going really really fast for the December event. As of this writing there are only a handful of tickets left. You can order online by clicking here or on the SwingShift logo or calling the City Opera House box office at (231) 941-8082.

Bear Snores On

by Karma Wilson, December 4

"In a cave in the woods, in his deep, dark lair, through the long, cold  winter sleeps a great brown bear." Animal friends stop by to warm up and begin to have a party while bear is sleeping. We reprise the snoring bear character two weeks later with a reading of Bear Stays Up.

The Gingerbread Man, by Eric Kimmel, December 11

Run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me. I'm the Gingerbread Man!

Bear Stays Up, by Karma Wilson, December 18

"The day before Christmas, snuggled on his floor, Bear sleeps soundly with a great big snore...." Bear's friends are determined to keep Bear awake for Christmas! So they wake Bear up and have him help them find a Christmas tree, bake cakes, hang up stockings, and sing Christmas songs. Bear stays up -- by discovering that giving is one of the best Christmas presents!

No InterActive StoryTime on December 25 or January 1,

but you already knew that!!
