Featuring August Activities
Mad Science Monday, Summer Programming, 12th Birthday, and More
Great Lakes Children's Museum Turns 12!
12th Birthday The Museum will be celebrating our twelfth birthday on August 11th. Thanks to the untiring efforts of a dedicated team of community volunteers and generous donations from broad-based community supporters, we opened our doors in our pilot location on August 11, 2001.

We have happily served more than 300,000 children, parents, and caregivers since opening. Here's to many more happy years of hands-on interactive learning and play!
Call for Artists! Children's Art Fair
Friday, August 16 at Friday Night Live

We are hosting our 11th Annual Children's Art Fair in mid-August. It's a great time for the artistic children in your life to think about channeling their creative energies into an entrepreneurial purpose! Young artists up to 8th grade are eligible. Help us spread the word. For more information and to download a registration form, visit our website. There's still room for additional artists!

Registration closes August 7.

Then look for us at Friday Night Live on August 16 and support all of the hardworking young artists as they sell their inspired and unique creations.

Mad Science Monday
Afternoons for Older Children through August 19
Mad Science Monday
Every Monday from 1 to 3 pm there are fun science activities for the whole family at the Museum. With school out, we are offering hands-on science that appeals to older children. Children six and under can participate in the joy of discovery with adult assistance.

Sandy Science, August 5
Sand is some of the best stuff on Earth! Not only is sand great to play with, it's filled (to the top of your bucket) with fun science.

Wild World, August 12
What is the fastest animal? Which animal can jump the highest? Find out about animals with some really wild hands-on activities.

Sports Science, August 19
Have you ever wondered why ice skates have metal blades, why tennis balls are fuzzy, or how Frisbees fly? Would you like to learn to swim like a shark or balance like a gymnast? We will have fun-filled experiments ready for you to try and discover the science behind the sport.

No Program, August 26

Mad Science Monday continues through August 19.
July Toddler Time Schedule
Wednesdays & Fridays, 10 to 12 through August 23
Toddler Time is offered Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-12 during the summer. It is an opportunity for toddlers to interact with each other and learn through a variety of activities and experiences. Toddler Time encourages toddlers' natural curiosity, enhances fine and gross motor skills, guides appropriate social behaviors, and facilitates essential cognitive growth. Most importantly, it's fun! Toddler Time is included with the price of admission or the cost of your annual membership.

Blowing Bubbles, August 7 and 9

Children will experiment with blowing soap bubbles. There will be plenty of bubbles to chase and pop! Children will get a chance to pop some bubble wrap. Older kids can construct a geometric shape to dip in bubble stuff. Smaller children can experiment dipping pre-made shapes.

Play Dough, August 14 and 16

Roll it! Squish it! Shape it! Poke it!

Kids will explore the marvelous medium of play dough.

Drip Drop!, August 21 and 23

Drip water colors on a paper filter to create a rainbow of fun.

No Program, August 28 and 30

Volunteer Opportunities at the Museum
Step up
As described below, we traditionally close for the week following Labor Day for repairs, maintenance, and deep cleaning. If you would like to help out, call the Museum at 932-4525. We would love to have your help.
Coming in September
We will be closed for Labor Day. Following that, we will be closed for the next four days for repairs, maintenance, and deep cleaning. The Museum will be closed from September 2nd through 6th, and will reopen on Saturday, September 7th.
The first week of August hangs at the very top of
summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning
