The Museum will be closed on Thursday, November 22 to celebrate Thanksgiving. We wish you and the children in your life the best for a warm and happy celebration.

Brainstorm Challenge - Good Vibrations!
Monday, November 5 - 11 am to 3 pm

Sound Wave

Whenever the Traverse City Area Public Schools have a scheduled Monday off, we are open. On Monday November 5, TCAPS is closed for a teacher development day, and we will be offering some very special programming for older kids.

Explore the science of sound! Through exciting hands-on activities, kids will actually see and feel (as well as hear) the wonderful world of sound. Join us on Monday, November 5 for lots of fun and interesting activities.

  • See what different sounds look like in an oscilloscope
  • Make a kazoo to take home
  • See how sound waves move water
  • Play with a sound box
  • Send vibrations across the room along a string
  • Make music at a sound exploration table
  • And more . . .

Even though many of these activities are for older children, most are still suitable for your preschooler, who will have lots fun exploring and learning about sound! Join us for a very special day of discovery.

Duck at the Door

Duck At The Door

by Jackie Urbanovic, November 7

Knock, Knock, Knock! Someone's outside the door. . . But who could it be in the middle of the night, and in the middle of a snowstorm?

Goodnight Moon

by Margaret Wise Brown, November 14

In this classic story, a little rabbit says goodnight to everything as he settles down to go to sleep.

If You Give A Moose A Muffin

by Laura Numeroff, November 21

If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. But if you give him a muffin, what will he want to have with it?

Time To Sleep

by Denise Fleming, November 28

Bear sniffed once. Bear sniffed twice. He smells winter in the air. Winter is coming. Who will he tell before he crawls into his cave to go to sleep?

InterActive StoryTime is underwritten through a generous Early Childhood Reading Grant from the Target Foundation.

November Toddler Time Schedule
Fridays, 10 am to 12 pm

Toddler Time is offered offered Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm. It is an opportunity for toddlers to interact with each other and learn through a variety of activities and experiences. Toddler Time encourages toddlers' natural curiosity, enhances fine and gross motor skills, guides appropriate social behaviors, and facilitates essential cognitive growth. Most importantly, it's fun! Toddler Time is included with the price of admission or the cost of your annual membership.

BeansBuried Treasure, November 2

Children love the idea of finding hidden objects! With this activity, children will awaken their sense of touch by searching for small items buried in "fun to touch" materials (beans, dried corn, pasta, and bird seed).

Push Me, Pull Me! November 9

A variety of push and pull toys will be provided for children to explore.

Make Some Noise! November 16

Bowls and spoons! Buckets and pans! Empty containers of all kinds! Children will explore the sounds that everyday objects can make. Make and take a shaker as part of this toddler time activity.

No Toddler Time on November 23 (day after Thanksgiving)

Open It, Close It! November 30

Open it, close it. Spin it, and get in it. Toddlers will have fun opening and closing and investigating a big bunch of crazy containers.

It's like being at the kids' table at Thanksgiving --

you can put your elbows on it, you don't have to talk politics...no matter how old I get, there's always

a part of me thats sitting there.
