Changes to the Nova Scotia Fuel Substitution Program
The "fuel substitution program" has undergone a change. It is now called the "Green Heat Program" The changes are as follows.....
- This program will be offered to those existing homes that use primarily electric heating (same as before) to install heating equipment that utilizes a renewable energy source such as wood, pellets, heat pumps.
- The range of equipment has been reduced to those using renewable energy so NO REBATES on drain water heat recovery, natural gas or propane appliances/equipment.
- Clients still need pre-approval prior to purchasing and installing equipment however they have a new deadline for their installation once approved dropping from 4 months to 2 months.
- Solar rebates are still offered under the Solar Program however the change here is that it is now offered to all homes regardless of existing heating type.
- The 0% financing option is no longer available as RBC has instituted a national change as they slow down their efforts toward the National Home Improvement lending market companywide. Currently a suitor is being sought.
