Are Trends making you Tired?

About this time of year I get tired. Tired of hearing about the trends we are supposed to be interested in...again.

For example: Now I'm supposed to like flare jeans? Is yellow really a color we are all going to be wearing? Gingham (which I wore in the late 70's) is something I'm to try again?

Yikes. Yes, Yikes. If I'm annoyed with the trends for Spring (and beyond) I'm sure that many of you are too.

And here's the thing, it's not really this Spring's trends that I am annoyed with, it's the idea of trends. Don't get me wrong. I love to see what's new and work a bit of a quirky look into my wardrobe now and then. I just am tired of being told every season that what I've loved is now "out".

Many of my clients will say to me, "I don't look good in the trends for Spring", or "Can I really not wear my (fill in the blank) anymore?"

And my answer is this: As a Stylist, my job is to help you find, embrace and live your personal style. That may include following some trends but it certainly won't mean following ALL trends. It means staying the course and not waivering when a magazine tells you to embrace something that goes against your own style palate.

Want to add a little life to your wardrobe for spring? Maybe a new accessory with just a touch of a bright yellow could be a way to do just that.

But throw out all of your clothes and start new? Absolutely not. Because the truth is, another trend opportunity is already here and it's called Fall.

The next time you hear or see the call of the next trend in fashion, think twice. As I like to say, "just because you can, doesn't mean you should." And nowhere does that ring more true than when you look into your own closet.

Best,
Patricia
