Tip of the Month

"It's always a question of a good eye, discipline, knowledge and taste."

This tip comes from Venezuelan-American fashion designer Carolina Herrera.

Normally this quote about "a good eye, discipline, knowledge and taste" would inspire me to write about pulling together a great look or overhauling your closet. But today it resonates with me in a broader way: I have several updates to share with you and I'm approaching all of these initiatives with Carolina's four principles in mind. As you take on your own personal goals and challenges, I encourage you to keep her words in mind as well.

Working on My Discipline: The Social Evolution Continues

Now that I'm set up on Pinterest, I'm bringing Inside/Out Style to Facebook. I'm excited (and a little nervous) to share my thoughts and ideas on fashion, style and finding The Real You in this new venue. But since social media is all about... well - being social, I invite you to find me on Facebook and share your comments and questions with me there!

A Good Eye: Resources for You

Every so often a client or new acquaintance asks about my newsletters or videos, so I've assembled a little treasure trove of these materials on my website:

Sharing My Taste and Increasing My Knowledge

I'm honored to have received two amazing invitations:

  1. I've been asked to be a judge at the Art Institute of Seattle's League of Fashion Show on March 6. I'm excited because this event showcases terrific young talent in Seattle. The student designers create stories with their lines, and their collective creativity is inspiring. The public is welcome and these young designers would love your support. Consider attending for a fun evening out!
  2. I've been invited to sit on the board of Fashion Group International Seattle. FGI is a non-profit organization with the mission of being a preeminent authority on the business of fashion and design, as well as helping its members become more effective in their careers. I'm pleased to be involved and I look forward to letting you know about great events in the future.

As this thrilling and challenging new year continues to unfold, I'll be keeping Carolina Herrara's words in mind.

I hope you will find the guidelines of a good eye, discipline, knowledge and taste helpful in all your endeavors.

Leaning In

On the topic of advice for approaching life, I have some recommended reading for you: Sheryl Sandberg's book Lean In. Media hoopla aside, I found some really valuable lessons in this unique, hard-hitting take on women and leadership. I recently joined a Lean In Circle - you might find one inspiring as well.
