With the holidays right around the corner, it's time for many of us to start thinking about what we're wearing to that special event or the company party. It's fun to think about which look we want for the evening. Sequins or silk? Little black dress or floor-length gown? And when doing so, it's critical that we consider the whole look, not just dress, accessories and shoes.

Looking Further

What else is there, you ask?

Foundations. We must have the right foundations for any look to actually work. When it comes to looking your best, sometimes what's under your dress can make or break your look -- and that starts with the right bra.

Unfortunately, there is no one bra for all occasions. Pair that with a report that 85% of women wear the wrong size bra and we arrive at this month's message:

Get yourself a proper bra fitting. Stat.

Making the Most of Your Bra Fitting

Here are a few simple tips for a successful experience:

  1. Find a great bra fitter and don't settle until you do. A great fitter is honest, listens to your needs, and knows her wares inside and out.
  2. Slimming doesn't have to mean suffering. The world of undergarments has changed drastically and there really is something for everyone. A smoothed shape and daily comfort -- you can have it all!
  3. If you have an outfit in mind, bring it to the fitting. Try on the whole look and get the "wow" factor worked out in the dressing room, rather than being surprised by an "oh no" look the night of the event.
  4. Do the fitting several weeks in advance of the event. This will not be a stressful experience if you give yourself a little lead time and enlist the help of a pro. Make an appointment with a fitter, get yourself a cup of tea and let the woman do her job!

As you know, I believe The Real You comes from the inside out. But make sure you pay attention to every layer along the way -- including the foundations -- to create your best look every time.

Enjoy those holiday parties!
