IMRF's 2016 Webinar Series Begins

IMRF has planned a series of webinar programs for 2016. The first, taking place March 29, 2016, at 1:30 PM, will address Pension Spiking and the Accelerated Payment.

Presented by Louis W. Kosiba, Executive Director, and Mark Nannini, Chief Financial Officer, this webinar will define pension spiking, explain the consequences of pension spiking, and detail IMRF's efforts to discourage the practice. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

All Authorized Agents, financial officers, finance professionals, governing body members, interested parties, and other officials are invited to register for IMRF's Pension Spiking and the Accelerated Payment webinar.

Your 403(b) and 457 Plans: Time for a review?

In a February 25 special edition of Employer Digest, IMRF shared its experiences and findings from a comprehensive review of its 457 plan providers. The review revealed that IMRF could realize significant savings for employees by consolidating the 457 plan from three providers to one.

The article is now available for reference on a dedicated page of IMRF's website. Employers are encouraged to undertake their own review of their 403(b) and 457 plan offerings using IMRF's experience, as outlined in the article, as a guide.

The definition of IMRF earnings

An employee's wages are generally reported to IMRF when paid, not earned. For IMRF earnings purposes, compensation falls under one basic rule: most forms of compensation paid - from the start of a member's
employment through the first calendar month after the end of employment - are included as IMRF earnings.
