Registration continues for October webinar
|
Registration continues for the webinar "Employer Rates: The Hows and the Whys," taking place Wednesday, October 21. The program will begin at 1:30 PM (attendees may log in at 1 PM).
"Employer Rates," presented by Louis W. Kosiba, Executive Director, and Mark Nannini, Chief Financial Officer, will help finance professionals and Authorized Agents better understand how IMRF rates are calculated and what factors affect rates, enabling them to effectively explain rate changes to governing board members. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

Review Return-to-Work rules
|
All IMRF employers are encouraged to contact IMRF before hiring an IMRF retiree. This applies even if the retiree is considering independent contract work with a unit of government.
By law, employers must enroll a retiree in IMRF once he or she has actually worked 600 or 1,000 hours (depending on the hourly standard) in a 12-month period, even if the position is "not normally expected" to exceed the hourly standard. Retirees who return to work for an IMRF employer, but continue to receive an IMRF pension, could face significant financial repercussions.
Employers should review Section 5.20F of the Manual for Authorized Agents, which describes the consequences of returning to work for each plan and tier. Additionally, review Exhibit 5S from the AA Manual, which outlines Return-to-Work rules.

IMRF introduces Member ID numbers
|
IMRF has introduced identification numbers for all members. The member identification number appears on the new IMRF Member ID Cards, as well as on private correspondence from IMRF. This initiative was designed to provide additional privacy protection to IMRF members.
Employers should remind members to use their IMRF Member ID number instead of their Social Security number on all forms and when contacting IMRF. For faster service, members should also have their Member ID number available when calling 1-800-ASK-IMRF (275-4673).
Members may retrieve their new IMRF Member ID Card in the Member Access section of IMRF's website (after log-in, select "Tools" then "Tools Summary" from the drop-down menu).

September 2015 Employer Reminder:
IMRF Employer Access: What you should know
|
IMRF's Employer Access is a secure, dedicated area of IMRF's website, www.imrf.org, designed to safely provide account-specific information to employers.
There are three types of Employer Access accounts: Authorized Agent, Security Administrator, and Web Assistant. The system provides secure access to key IMRF duties including administrative tasks, employer account updates, and protected online transactions. Employers are required to use Employer Access to submit certain information, and IMRF sends most employer communications through the system.
Read more about Employer Access and its functions in the September 2015 Employer Reminder. |
