Music on the Monument Kicks off Summer Concert Series
The Plumb Gold Ltd. Music on the Monument Concert Series will kick off its 11th season this Friday with a free concert by Final Approach. 

 

Music on the Monument outdoor concerts will be held every Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. during June, July and August.   Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the live music from many of Racine's favorite local bands.  Pack a picnic lunch or order a sandwich or salad from one of Downtown's many eateries, then relax and enjoy the music. 

 

In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to The Red Onion Cafe located at 555 Main Street (inside The Johnson Building).

 

Music at the Monument is sponsored by Plumb Gold Ltd. in cooperation with the Downtown Racine Corporation, Red Onion Cafe, Shorewest Realtors, WRJN, Lite Rock 92.1 and The Journal Times.

 

Final Approach Fasten your seat belts for a blast of classic rock this Friday as Final Approach performs at Monument Square.  The rocking groove of the lead singer's smooth voice along with two screaming guitars, smokin' drums and kickin' bass will keep you dancing and begging for more.

  

Big Joe Kennedy Join us next Friday (June 14) for the boogie woogie sounds of Big Joe Kennedy, who is one of  today's hottest young performers. With his thumping, swinging piano and booming voice, Big Joe's talent brings audiences to their feet.

First Fridays Bring Summertime Fun to Downtown Racine

 Downtown Summer Block Buster Now on Display

Going A Viking Westbrook Downtown Summer Block Buster is the 12th annual Public Art Project sponsored by the Downtown Racine Corporation.  This year's project features unique creations from 40 artists with each art piece created from 90 blocks of wood (plus other elements such as copper, metal, plastic, etc.)   The beautiful block designs are now on display throughout Downtown Racine and you are invited to enjoy them block by block.  Bring your camera, wear some comfortable shoes and discover art that will knock your blocks off!

Racine Symphony Orchestra Promotes Violinist Dr. Alexander Mandl

The Racine Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the promotion of violinist Dr. Alexander "Sascha" Mandl to Concertmaster, effective June 28 during the opening concert of the 2013-14 season.  Dr. Mandl began performing with the Symphony in 2011 at both pops and classical concerts.  In his new position, Dr. Mandl will serve as the leader of the 60+  musician orchestra while continuing to perform as first chair violin.

The Music & More Summer Concert series kicks off this Thursday, June 6.  Free noontime concerts are held every Thursday (with the exception of July 4) from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at first Presbyterian Church, 716 College Avenue.  The upcoming concerts for the next two weeks will feature:

Northern Lights Gallery Introduces New Designer and Merchandise
Northern Lights Gallery, 423 Main Street is introducing a new jewelry designer Don Pekarek from Algonquin, Illinois.  He designs and creates rings using only the highest quality natural gemstones sterling silver, 14kt and 18kt gold in his original designs.   Northern Lights is also introducing TokyoBay purses to compliment the already carried TokyoBay watches.  TokyoBay is a partnership between two designers with very different backgrounds -- one British and the other Japanese, who create affordable watches and accessories with a modern edge. 
  
Racine Public Library Offers New Programs
The Racine Public Library will host entrepreneurial author Ed Paulson on Monday, June10 from 6 - 7:3 p.m.  Paulson is a professor at DePaul University, has 25 years of entrepreneurial experience and is the author of 12 books including the popular "Complete Idiot's Guide to Starting Your Own Business".  There will be a 30-minute presentation with a detailed question and answer session, followed by a book sale and signing. 
  
The Library will also offer a series of college planning information sessions presented by college access advisor Naomi Esteves from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation.  Each session will be held from 6-7 p.m. and are free to the public.
