Mayor Taveras Visits SCCA's Joyful Learning Child Academy!
The Providence Mayor was there to read to the children
On Thursday, October 3, 2013 the South County Community Action Agency's Joyful Learning Child Academy (JLCA) hosted Jumpstart's annual "Read for the Record" event. Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom was selected to host this event because it represents a model classroom partnership with Jumpstart year after year. In addition to our usual book reading and art activity we were joined by Providence Mayor, Angel Taveras. Mayor Taveras read aloud to the children, and joined them for a special art activity. Jumpstart's primary focus in its partnerships with early childhood programs is to bring additional support and literacy exposure to children ages three to five years of many socio-economic backgrounds. JLCA's relationship with Jumpstart is in its 6th year and we are very proud to have been selected as a true example site for this year's big "Read for the Record" event. More information regarding "Read for the Record" can be found at: http://www.jstart.org/campaigns/read-record.
