Tri-Town & South County celebrate "Older Americans Month" in May
Agencies highlight Senior Service/Disabled Adult programs
May is "Older Americans Month" which is
 | (C) 2013 U.S. Administration on Aging |
designated to honor the value that elders contribute to our communities. To recognize the Senior Services/Disabled Adult volunteers within the Elder Care department at Tri-Town and South County Community Action Agency, the agencies will be hosting two volunteer appreciation events. These events are designed to recognize and thank seniors that provide services through Tri-Town & South County's Senior Medical Patrol (SMP), & Rhode Island's State Health Insurance Program (SHIP).
- Through the SMP program, volunteers help Medicare beneficiaries detect, recognize, and report Medicare and Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse.
- SHIP is part of a national partnership designed to help consumers make informed healthcare choices. Volunteers provide direct services to seniors within the community.
The SMP and SHIP program case managers are coordinated at Tri-Town by Meghan O'Connor, and at South County they are coordinated by Suzanne Carson. For volunteer opportunities, call 401-709-2635 (Tri-Town), or 401-789-3016 x379 (South County).
