Bullying is a serious public health problem, with significant short- and long-term psychological consequences for both the targets and perpetrators of such behavior, and requires a commitment to developing preventive and interventional policies and practices that could make a tangible difference in the lives of many children, says a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Too many preschoolers with ADHD are still being put on drugs right away, before behavior therapy is tried, health officials say. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that three in four young kids diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are put on medicines. New CDC data shows that's continued, even after research found behavior therapy is as effective and doesn't give children stomach aches, sleep problems or other drug side effects. (AP)

This historic rule helps implement the bipartisan Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 and allows the FDA to improve public health and protect future generations from the dangers of tobacco use through a variety of steps, including restricting the sale of these tobacco products to minors nationwide.
A House Republican task force is weighing what types of Medicaid reforms could be possible in 2017, though the November election will play a major role in what can be done, its leader said Tuesday. Reauthorizing the Children's Health Insurance Program and some Medicare extenders could provide opportunities for some additional reforms to the Medicaid program. (Morning Consult)
In this position paper, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians make a series of recommendations to reform the current funding system to better align Graduate Medical Education (GME) with the needs of the nation's health care workforce.
