Asian Quitline Now Available  

The Asian Smokers' Quitline is a free nationwide Asian-language quit smoking service operated by the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego. The Quitline offers self-help materials, referral to local programs, one-on-one telephone counseling to quit smoking, and a free two-week starter kit of nicotine patches. Read more ...

Several recent blog posts have addressed violence in America, a call to action on walking, and Medicaid expansions. Tell us what's on your mind, and what you think should be done about it! Advancing Obesity Prevention is the theme of the spring supplement to the JHCPU. The supplement was produced in collaboration between the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities and the Health Resources and Services Administration. It features articles on promising/innovative approaches, community partnerships, special populations, and policy approaches. View the online table of contents.

July 15-16, National Health Care for the Homeless Council presents its 2013 Midwest Health & Housing Conference July 15-16 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. 

  

July 16, 8 a.m. - 12 noon,  Veterans' Mental Health Project: What Health Care Providers Can Do to Address the Needs of Returning Veterans and their Families, a half-day workshop offered by the Maine AHEC in Portalnd, ME. Details and registration available online.

 

Sept. 8 - 11, United States Conference on AIDS, sponsored by the National Minority AIDS Council at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans. The USCA 2013 is intended for case managers, clinicians, public health workers, advocates and people living with HIV or AIDS. Prepare for ACA implementation and enrollment. Preliminary agenda, call for abstracts, and scholarship application available online.

Primary Care for Substance Use Professionals 5-hour Online Course developed by the SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions (CIHS), in collaborated with the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network and the Morehouse School of Medicine National Center for Primary Care. This 5-hour self-paced online course for addiction treatment professionals considering career opportunities in primary care provides you with  resources and information to help you decide whether working in a primary care setting is right for you.

 

Web-Based Certificate in Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care (IBHPC ) offered by the University of Michigan School of Social Work. This certificate program is a blended and interactive web-based learning experience led by a team of national experts, seasoned clinicians, and University of Michigan scholars. Designed for professionals in social work, primary care, nursing, psychology, and other applied fields, participants will gain assessment, intervention, and consultation skills with practical applications in the workplace, and will link with a peer distance learning community to discuss ideas and practice new skills. A special emphasis of the IBHPC certificate program is teaching feasible behavioral health interventions for use in fast-paced clinical environments.  The application deadline is August 2, 2013.  

Scholarships and Fellowships

 

ACU has available scholarships to cover the cost of registration at the 25th Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care, December 8 - 11, in Orlando, FL. Use the online application form to apply. 

Apply for a HIMSS Davies Award 

 

Is your organization making strides in using health information technology (IT)  to improve patient care and outcomes? Consider apply for either the  HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award (formerly Organization) or the HIMSS Ambulatory Davies Award. Both the awards and the application process have evolved. The application process is now based on submission of written case studies and applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
