If you're going into 8th or 9th grade next fall, check out JOURNEY, a residential summer camp held 7/14-7/20 2013 at Washington College. It is run by Maryland Leadership Workshops, Inc. and supported by the WGC.

The Young Women's Giving Circle (YWGC) held its first Open House on Sunday, April 21st. It was an opportunity for girls interested in joining the YWGC in the fall to come learn more about the group. Girls who attended made blankets for Project Linus, watched the MISSrepresentation trailer and participated in a meaningful discussion on body image and issues facing teen girls today.

Dear WGC Donors and Friends,
As usual, there is much going on within The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County. This month though my focus is on our two signature efforts - the WGC Annual Meeting and Journey Camp.
For anyone who has been part of the WGC, you no doubt have heard all about our Journey Camp. Since its inception in 2006, more than 200 Howard County girls have completed the program. Survey results at the end of the program consistently indicate that the girls gained self-confidence and interpersonal skills as a result of their participation. Applications are still being accepted so if you know any rising 8th and 9th grade girls, please have them check this program out. Information can be found on our website.
This year's Annual Meeting will take on a different format. In addition to networking and our keynote speaker, we are adding a special component - an interactive discussion on the future of women's philanthropy. "Building a community of philanthropists" is the first part of our mission statement.
So I am very excited about this opportunity to engage in a conversation with our donors about this core component of the WGC. Please join us for what promises to be a great evening.

On Thursday, September 12th, The Mall in Columbia will be hosting its second annual City Gives event. All proceeds of this event will benefit the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County and two women will be receive honors for their local philanthropic efforts.
The WGC invites you to help us select this year's honorees.
We will be selecting two women: a Leadership Honoree and a Legacy Honoree. Both women should embrace the vision of the WGC, enhance our community with their philanthropy, and enrich our legacy of leadership.

| WGC Grants - The Dream Fund |
Parris Muse, a December graduate in Women's Studies at Howard Community College was the first recipient of the "Dream Fund," awarded by the Women's Giving Circle to address the "dreams" of women who receive financial aid covering tuition and books. With Parris are Missy Mattey of the Development Office, Valerie Lash, Chair of Arts and Humanities, and Helen Mitchell.

| YWGC Partners With Olenka School of Music |
 The Young Women's Giving Circle is partnering with Olenka School of Music as they celebrate 20 years of teaching music in Howard County! Please come to an Open House on May 19th from 3-6 pm. There will be music and keyboarding trial classes, performances, parent education, raffles, giveaways and more! Our YWGC will be running a bake sale and leading children in crafts. Proceeds from the raffles and bake sale will go to the YWGC. Join us: 9520 Berger Rd., Suite #104, Columbia, MD. |

 This year's WGC Circle Team training season is in full swing! Through the years the WGC's Circle Team has had over 75 athletes and raised over $80,000 since its inception and has made an incredible impact on the organization and how we are supporting local women and girls.
