Grassroots is requesting immediate assistance of $1,000 to help one of their clients in need.

Grassroots is working with a woman who is a single parent and has 3 children, two of whom have medical problems.  She left her partner due to domestic violence two years ago. She is unable to get child support because her former partner is disabled and they cannot garnish his SSDI check. She called Grassroots for assistance with her BGE bill since her utilities have been cut off. She has utilized other assistance that is available and still owes $1,200. As a result of this she is at risk for losing the home she is renting, as it is a part of the rental agreement that she pay her BGE bill. This mother has a history of employment, but has been unemployed for several months. Grassroots feels that with their assistance, this family will avoid homelessness and she can achieve the stability she needs to find employment and other resources to again support her family.  Grassroots is requesting assistance of $1,000 from the Emergency Response Network to help pay this BGE bill and have her utilities restored.
