By 2018 there will be 1.4 million tech job openings and only 400,000 college graduates to fill them
ChathamSTEM is working here in Chatham to change this. This summer 200 children went through our summer program and learned computer programming and more science and technology. This fall we partnered with the national program Girls Who Code and now 24 girls are learning how to code. Eighty-seven 4th and 5th graders participated in FLL Robotics. Two teams of Chatham trained students went to the New Jersey State First Lego League Championships for FLL and Junior FLL. Two other teams, grades 8-12, are in the FTC robotics team.

Having sent your children to some of these programs we know you think this is important too.

We have also met with school faculty and administrators. We are having an impact on increasing STEM opportunities within the School District of the Chathams, but we feel more could be done and are continuing this work.

ChathamSTEM has shown our children real jobs that they can aspire to and colleges they an apply to. We have sent scores of children on field trips such as Google, Tumblr, AT&T, IBM, Rethink Robotics and Research labs in Biomedical sciences (BRINJ) and Physics PPPL. ChathamSTEM took students to visit Science and Engineering schools at Yale, MIT and Harvard.  We have reached out to the Boys and Girls Club of Newark enabling less fortunate children to participate in our programs.

Having sent your children to some of these programs we know you think this is important too. This year we hope to continue programs like these and for that we now turn to you asking for your help. Will you please make a tax deductible donation to ChathamSTEM?

Sincerely,

How can your donation help ?

ChathamSTEM serves as an incubator for new STEM programs that get subsequently adopted by the Library, the PTOs, the School. We spend time and money researching, testing and training instructors on new programs so Chatham students have access to the most advanced programs.

Explore and Introduce new STEM Clubs:

MakerClub:

Provide an avenue for Chatham students to learn new hands on design and engineering skills, engage in local and regional competitions such as Lemelson. Whether it is with Little Bits for the K-5 or Arduino based platforms for kids grade 6+, introduce the kids to the world of engineering.

MathClub:

Offer introductory math programs for K-5 and competitive level programs for students in grades 6-12 that supplement the offering of the schools in our community.

Science Research:

Building on the success of the summer program, introduce authentic research opportunities for Chatham High School students.

Consolidate and Expand Existing STEM Programs:

Robotics:

Start programs for middle school and consolidate the programs K-3, 4-5 and 9-12. Explore new platforms and develop new activities such as SeaPerch, Zero Robotics

Computer Club: Open the Girls Who Code Club to middle schoolers and introduce programs for boys. Introduce new programming languages and competitions such as Google's CodeJam ad CodeDay

SportsTech: After a successful partnership with IPICO Sports (Foot Race), develop new collaborations leveraging the use of new technologies in sports for ball sports

Internships: With web development and programming skills newly acquired, expand the TechInternship opportunities for students

Our Mission

ChathamSTEM is a network of parents, professionals, students and educators whose goal is to promote excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math ("STEM") education. We are dedicated to partnering with local schools and other organizations to create and enhance STEM-oriented educational opportunities as part of students' paths towards college and career readiness, and to develop effective STEM programs and initiatives that engage students and educators. ChathamSTEM is also committed to bridging the gender gap in STEM education and sharing STEM-related opportunities with underprivileged students and communities.
