Good Morning LAF Parents:
The 2014/2015 First Lego League season for LAF will begin on Tuesday, September 16 with our first practice session.
We have 13 teams with 6-7 children per team and have reached full capacity for the season. This IS the largest group ever in Chatham and its all THANKS to parent leads and parents of children on the teams, the children who are participating, HS mentors, Mrs Russo and her staff and STEM etc... Without their support we could not have made it where we are today.
The theme of the First Lego League challenge for the 2014/2015 season is "World Learning". Finding a creative solution that improves the learning process.
On Monday night, I went in front of the BOE and expressed my support on behalf of the teams. The BOE was quite impressed and Dr LaSusa may stop by to rally on the troops on Tuesday, September 16th.
As with any new programs we need volunteers aside from people who are already involved with the teams to help us during the season. Please take a moment to review the list of
roles that need to be filled and please consider helping the teams.
Here is our
press release in the Alternative Press for this season.
Here is a
press release of Catholic School in New Providence and their success story. They won 2nd place in the Nationals in California.
How does this program help our kids?
- Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
- Apply real-world math and science concepts
- Research challenges facing today's scientists
- Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
- 50 percent more likely to attend college
- Twice as likely to major in science or engineering
- Young women in FIRST programs are four times more likely to pursue science and engineering in college.
With Best Wishes and Good Health,
