Lafayette ChathamSTEM Robotics First Lego League teams for 2014/2015...

and have the hardest fun you will ever have !

Hello Everyone,

Here is a list of current players and potential teams as they are being formed.  As you can see we have many children interested being part of a team.  We need team leads.
Without parent leads/coaches, FLL competitions cannot be made possible.  As a team lead your goal is to help your team see the fun in science, technology, engineering and math. As a team lead you will need do all the planning but remember the support and cooperation of your team members' parents and guardians to help share the work load will make the team more productive.

Part of being in a team, we would also request if teams can be open to take on other children who may not have formed a team of their own- if they have room.

Many of you have asked about next steps.   Here they are...

1) Assemble teams - players and leads
2) Register teams with FLL
3) Teams purchase kits and pay necessary fees. Teams can raise money or equally divide the costs.  ChathamSTEM will help register all the teams.
4) Teams attend table decorating and unveiling of challenge. More details to follow.
5) September to November- Let the games begin!!  In October, we will hold a session for teams to come and demonstrate their projects and to get all the kinks worked out.

All of the above should be organized and ready to go by mid September.

If you are a parent of a child on the roster, please consider leading a team.  Here is a coaches handbook if you would like to read more about your role.

From the organization perspective:
  • ChathamSTEM met with the school principal and secured a practice space at the Lafayette Gym on Tuesdays 3pm-6pm where we will have the tables setup.  As a team you can meet at your own home if necessary.  Logistically its up to the team where to meet and how much time they would like spend each week.
  • We have also trained the High Schoolers that will serve as assistant coaches, therefore the coach does not need to learn the technical aspects if she/he does not wish to. For those parents who do want to learn the technical piece, we can teach you.
  • Finally, we are developing a parents Friendly First Lego League curriculum that explicitly reinforces the grade 4 and 5 Math and Science concepts the way they are taught in Chatham. That curriculum will be provided to every parent and used by .
