Join the Lafayette ChathamSTEM Robotics First Lego League teams for 2014/2015...

and have the hardest fun you will ever have !

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Thank you to those that were able to attend the FLL information session on Wednesday. For those of you who were not able to make it,  ChathamSTEM is scheduling another one either the first or second week of August. An announcement will go out this coming week.

Past few days I have received several emails from parents who are interested in having their child or children join a team.  Based on all who attended this past meeting and other parents whom I met at the camp site at Lafayette, we can easily make 3 or more teams if everyone is willing to take part.  We have about 20 potential players so far.

I am attaching the presentation from Wednesday.   As I mentioned during the meeting, without parents volunteering to lead their child's team, we cannot make this happen.  At least on parent per team of 5 or 6 kids will need to help their child/children if they are part of the team.  That is the only way they will be successful.  However, the leader of the team will give direction and ChathamSTEM will provide the support.   Please review the information in the presentation as it provides details about potential costs and visit the FLL website below if necessary for additional information.   We want there to be much transparency as possible so nothing comes as a surprise.

If you would like to lead a team, please let me know ASAP along with your childs' name and any of his/her friends that want to join your team. Once we have team leads we can share the list of players and complement the teams with kids who do not have a team yet.

From the organization perspective:
  • ChathamSTEM met with the school principal and secured a practice space at the Lafayette Gym on Tuesdays 3pm-6pm where we will have the tables setup,
  • we have also trained the High Schoolers that will serve as assistant coaches, therefore the coach does not need to learn the technical aspects if she/he does not wish to. For those parents who do want to learn the technical piece, we will tech them.
  • Finally, we are developing a parents Friendly First Lego League curriculum that explicitly reinforces the grade 4 and 5 Math and Science concepts the way they are taught in Chatham. That curriculum will be provided to every parent.
